Who has Hellenistic Total War

okay im downloading version 3 of hellenistic total war and im getting into it againg. So whos played it?
Who have you played as?
Whats your fave unit, and strategy?
Hows version 3 compared to version 2?
Talk about anything else too?

I like the spartans(lakedemonians), Because i saw a show about them on the history channel and just fell in love with them.I also like the macedonians, and lydians(because of their cavalry).
My favorite units are the Lyidian royal cavalty unit and the spartan enomotia hoplite.
I love to just let my hoplites loose, i cover their flank with hippies and sometimes use archers behind my hplites to protect them from peltasts.
With the lydians i use heavy lydian cavalry as my main unit. I pin down enemy units with junk units and flank them with all my cavalry on both flanks, after a little while they rout and i chase them down.
The illirians are also a fun faction because they have to face the greek world without hoplites wich is pretty challenging.

I also rarely use peltasts 'cause i've never really mastered how to use them well. I simply develop tactics to counter them. Also i've never really used those slingers.They look so crappy and are so cheap i've never wasted my time with them.

I have the Hellenic TW mod but have only really given it the once over as i'm absorbed in a campaign in MedMod and another one in Napoleonic at the moment.I did like what i saw however.I naturally played as the Spartans as they were my favourite when i was in school and their only weakness came from an inability to adapt to changing times(use of cavalry).
I was however disappointed to see that the Hoplon Enomotia to my North(whoever they were) were on a par with my Spartan Hoplon Enomotia more or less.After training the buggers for 4 years i thought they might be considerably stronger.Nevermind.
I thought the missile troops were superior to say the Murabatin infantry in MTW.The Peltasts in this game really do damage when used properly.
Over all i really like it but i just have a love affair going with NTW at the mo and cannot seem to get around to giving this excellent mod the time it so obviously deserves. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I have this mod rite now and its hella fun

Im playing as the Macedonians and i have the second largest army in the map. I control the other half and the Greek part and the Persians control the other part. Both of us have very large armies, but we are allied with each other, though i feel we're going to fight soon. I like the Macedonian Phalangites and Companion cavalry but then the companions dont have strong charge. Well anyway, this mod is very fun http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

I have mostly played Custom battles to try out the new units (eg. Elephants and chariots) But Ive played a campaign as Persia and I am doing one as Sparta. The Persians are good As long as you get units such as Kardakes and Lydian Heavy Infantry and of course Immortals. Get superior Generals and then bring along some of their nice cavalry. Fight with units and try to engulf the lesser numbered Greeks and isolate their hoplites. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif
