I have heard many lines and references to osprey books.
I have no idea what it is, i do know that they are books and that you can find in them, info on medieval/ancient warfare?

So could anybody point me in the right direction im really interested in this 'osprey' thing whatever it is.

Also isn't it a bird? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-dizzy2.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-speechless.gif

Osprey is a series of books that covers warfare from the ancient Egyptian times all the way up to the modern era. It covers all nations and is divided into several miniseries, Warrior being my favorite.

And yes it is a bird.

I've found it quite difficult to locate Osprey books in normal book shops (even the good ones). However, I've seen good ranges of them in museums and places like the Royal Armouries (in Leeds, UK.)

But really I think the best place to get them from is the website. You get great deals there. After you make your first order you get a vouncher which gives you money off each book you order (£1 for each book for UK) and if you order three or more books you get free postage. They recently did a deal for £5 off so I saved a heck of a lot of money, that and free postage too.

So, if you can, order from the website because it's cheaper.

Hey, Inuyasha, I live in Florida too, in Port Richey, which is about 3 hours from Miami. I've been able to find at least 10 or so Osprey books at a time in Books-A-Million, dont know if Miami has one of thems, but I got Ninja from that one. And I suppose you could find em' in Barnes and Noble too. Only Osprey book I ordered off of internet so far was, Samurai Invasion: The Japanese Invasion of Korea.

By the way, if you happen to live in the Netherlands, an excellent place to go to if you want a huge amount of choice of osprey books, is Atleest, in Leiden. Small bookshop, run by two guys with two cats. Look between the Breestraat and the Haarlemmerstraat, right of the pub called De Kroeg. Lots of yummy stuff there, including lots of books on Korea, India, Japan, China, Egypt etc. and Stephen Turnbull stuff http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-toff.gif

My two favourite lines of Osprey books are Campaign and Essential Histories followed by Warrior. The men-at-arms series are good but a little on the short site.

Thats angus mcbride, imo the best osprey artist. But there are plenty of others who are good graham turner doing the best campaign pics but no where near as good in the other series, also wayne reynolds and richard schollins(R.I.P) are/were great.

Angus McBride is my favourite Osprey artist, specifically his work in German Medieval Armies 1300-1500 and Knights at Tournament.
