View Full Version : Is this possible? Would it be hard/time consuming?

I was thinking if it would be possible to edit units and factions to come up with one faction of whatever troops I wanted. Like taking one faction and just making them able to build my favorite troops.

Would this be hard? Would Gnome Editor simply do the trick? I can't imagine it taking to long for someone like BKB or Barocca who works with modding all the time but for me GAH I'd be willing to help out in any way if anyone could set this up for me.

I'm clueless

Here are the unit(s) I would use

Faction: Scottish (Fav color is blue/love starting with only 1 province/ BKB's mod)

Total Units: 30

Infantry: 16
- Basque Warriors
- Catalonian Guard
- Danish Nobles
- Georgian Infantry
- Irish Foot Soilders
- Joms Vikings
- Neapolitan Infantry
- Noble Footmen
- Norman Foot Kinghts
- Scandinavian Mercenaries
- Siculo-Norman Knights
- Skutatos
- Svean Axemen
- Swabian Swordsmen
- Teutonic Foot Knights
- Varangian Guards (BKB's not the original's)

Cavalry: 8
- Cuman Royal Cavalry
- Klibanophori
- Knights of St. Lazarus
- Knights of St. Thomas of Acre
- Knights of Auiz
- Latin Knights
- Norman Knights
- Tuscan Knights

Archers: 5
- Bohemian Bowmen
- Cuman Warriors
- Nomad Warriors
- Sherwood Foresters
- Welsh Bandits

I think you could do all this just with Gnome Editor. Simply load up the unit file you want to change and then use Gnome to change which faction can make the units. Just locate these units and add the Scottish faction to the list of factions allowed to use the unit.

Shouldn't take to long at all, even for a novice person. Heck, even I could do it (So you know its easy http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif )

Thats what I was thinking but then what about the building requiremnets will that mess it up or automatically be set for that faction?

Good point, you'll have to adjust them too so that either your faction can build all the buildings it needs or your units have different build requirements to normal.

Nice to see you like my units Yes I'm sure it is possible, although all realism goes out the window Just be careful of the religion tags as these could prohibit a unit from being used by a faction. For example, a unit classed as 'Pagan' could not be used by a Christian faction without changing it.

Oh and by the way I didn't make those Varangian Guards - they are 'early' Varangian Guards that were added in the Viking Invasion.

Thats true I love realism but with Rome so close its time to have alittle fun:)

BKB erm so I just have to edit the Gnome Files? Waht about buildings etc? I'm really dumb when it comes to this stuff so even if it seems like a given tell me lol

Thank you
