Hi all,

As accurate as the game is - I often think that certain things in the game should be changed to make it perhaps a little but more accurate/realistic.

Of course one can always mod things in on one's own. But I'll get the ball rolling on things I feel the game should have come with.

Early Era Asia Minor Regional Accuracy:
The Turks should start with Georgia and and Anatolia, not the Byzantines. Or Rum should be made to extend more westwards or Anatolia should be smaller. This would accurately reflect the results of the battle of Manzikert in 1071. It would also make the game more challengin for the Byzantines and slightly easier for the Turkish.

Mongols:
As devilishly hard as they are, the Mongols should not have any UM in their ranks when they first arrive. They should be able to replenish their ranks with MHC and MHA straight off the back(when being played by the AI). Also as time wears on, their MHA should not become Mongol Warriors. This would be more accurate as they had no foot soldiers (other than the ones they forced to fight for them from tributary states). This would prevent them from becoming laughably easy to conquer after a few years when all most of their MHA become MW.

Also the Mongols should appear in and attack Arabia/Syria once more in the 1250s to reflect the Ilkahanate's attempt to take on the Mamlukes. Plus by then the Mongols had split up into the Golden horde and the Ilkhanate (among other factions) so it is fair to expect another invasion.

Pre Battle deployment:
Quite often when you attack a province where you have no agents and no watch towers bordering it, the pre battle panel tells you how many troops the enemy has. This should be removed.

Early Era Turks:
Turks should start with more HA.

Early Era Mamelukes:
Mamluk Cavalry whould be very, very disciplined.

Early Era Danes:
The Danes should start with Sweden.

Early Era Russians:
Either the People of Novgorod should start with Kiev or another faction should have Kiev. The Kievan Rus under Prince Oleg held Kiev around 1087 - they were the ones who sent VG to the Byzantines in the first place.

Early Era Italians:
Genoa should be independent and need to be conquered by the Italians (whom I'm assuming are the venetians) - this would be more accurate as Genoa and Venice were sworn enemies.

Thoughts?

Cheers

Zortanius, the effort is commendable, but I am afraid it is futile. MTW is only reasonably historically accurate. Only heavy modding could improve it and even then you are stuck with things like skirmishers and horse archers not behaving correctly, simplified and bugged diplomacy and so fort. The list of 'historical' improvements I can think of is already very long, and I am by no means an historian.

There are several mods which have attempted historical accuracy. I can remember two: Blind King of Bohemia's supermedieval and kekvitrae's mod. But for this you should look in the engineers guild subforum of the dungeon.

Greetings Zortanius,

Several modding groups have been working on historical accuracy. Some of those groups have common members. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

We have been slowly yet steadily working on a project named "Modlet I" too. The entire naming scheme is aimed to be made hardcore historical. If you have anything to contribute, we would be glad. Just contact me.

Amusingly, the manual claims that if you don't have intel on the enemy army, you won't know what it is on this pre-battle screen. But as you say, it always shows it. There's a few dodgy bits like this in the manual. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I agree heartily

play medmod

BTW, Turks already starts with a decent amount of HAs and it's hard enough to counter those as Eggy.

also, mamluks shouldn't be available in early.
