Hey, I was just wondering if any of you bribe everybody on the campaign map that doesn't belong to another Faction. 'cos i do, give 'em 2 trys then kill 'em http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif

Rather I'd kill them to get easy victories for my generals, unless I'd need those units desperately (in the beginning of a camp).

I never bribe armies for their units because they're usually a load of pants. I'll bribe if the amount demanded is fairly small, if the province is of decent value, if there is a good general in amongst the rabble, or if I can't be bothered to fight.

Bribery is a strategical element in my gameplay and since I always focus on establishing a strong economy, I often bribe. When or whom depends on the conjoncture.

Take a hint, only go for the ones that look huge and powerful like a horde of fehudal foot knights led by a 9 star commander, then go for it, a unit of 20 peasants......... Kill 'em all http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wall.gif

If there are units that I want in an army,I will bribe it.Or if I want to cut the line of retreat for a King I will bribe an army.Sometimes I bribe an army that has retreated into a castle.

That is very important, especially if you've only got a couple of provinces left... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-book2.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-book2.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-book2.gif

I almost always use the bribe option in my campaigns, at different times, sometimes even at the real first turn.
I bribe for strategic regions (resources or position), or for units (mouted troops usually, when I am not able to produce them).

In Shogun I bribe almost every campaign the monks in Kaga. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

bribe for access to location you can't reasonably get to in time such as the southern steppes and scandanavia for the Spanish.

having these area will give often access to iron in sweden, trade, and region specific units like huscarles, steppe heavies, avar nobles, etc.

also, bribing a nice general when you don't have good generals is good as is for units you can't get such as longbows in Wales at the start of early.

I almost never bribe faction armies though even if I'm rolling in dough.

I prefer to assasinate or inquisit them to death and then bribe the remnants.

I set a limit of 3k per bribed stack. For me, it provides more of a challenge as most stacks fall beyond that florin limit, but it does allow me to bribe very small besieged garrisons.

3k... is that all? I'd bribe anybody 15000 or above.

now to have a party.

I must always find the wrong loyalty in units I consider bribing.
I've never ever done bribe in MTW. The few times I've checked on it I was quoted 6 figures (like 120,000 florins) for a stack with anything worth having and obviously I can buy a ton of troops for 6 figures so this made no sense to me at all.
The only affordable bribe quote is for peasant armies, which as said above, makes more sense to go kill them than bribe them.

I bribe a lot, and I bribe Sweden every game.

I tend to bribe Norway instead and the 4 viks there can easily overrun sweden and cost about the same.

I've had the 4 viks later kill the entire Danish royalty and later got Denmark for little more than 1k.

so for a total of about 3k, I got the whole of scandanavia with a keep and shipyard in denmark.

I only bribe as my empire gets really big and is ready to accept other nationals in it. I set a rule - no bribing before I have 500k in bank. I usually do it to finish a TD game earlier, cause I don't feel like fighting the rebels (no chalange)

I only bribe when i see some rare units or if the army is led by a high star general. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I like to fight, to gain experience - so I don't bribe much. But it makes a lot of sense to bribe good generals - I'll have to take a look at that

One place I got a lovely bribe, though, just yesterday - there were rebels in Sicily (low loyalty, high income province) including one big stack in the province, and a couple of little units in a BIG castle that would've been hell to take. Guess which ones I bribed? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif This let me own the region (no building loss) AND not have to suffer heavy losses taking the castle, which his land units would've retreated to, I'm sure.

I try to bribe pinch points, somewhere where 1 province blocks off 5-6 other ones, and the only way to my empire is through that province loaded with troops, almost like Constinople... to that effect, strong defending ground, A couple of the nine kinds of ground...

When the ground,
Offers advantage,
To either side,
That is,
Strategic ground.

When the ground borders,
Three states,
And the FIRST to take it
Has mastery,
Over the empire,
That is,
Crossroad ground

I'm trying to cut down on my bribing and fight more rebel armies. Usually they are crap units I don't want, with very low loyalty once they defect to my side, becoming rebels again fairly quickly if their province is isolated or you don't keep an eye on them. When I am swimming in cash, usually after a few years of peace with a massive trade network, I'll try to bribe units that I cannot build myself just to play with them. In my last campaign as the Turks, for example, I took Ireland, but the English decided it would be fun to attack all of my ships around the British Isles (I HATE it when the AI starts wars navally). Ireland is isolated and rebels immediately-- a Christian rebellion with two stacks filled with Feudal Knights/Foot Knights, Chiv Sergeants, etc. I gave up my peasant garrison without a fight, but made sure to slip in two emissaries before the rebels took the province and destroyed the port... next year I have a bunch of Feudal Knights and Foot Knights in the service of the Sultan, ready to wreak some havoc once I get my port up again. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

In STW, use geisha to assasinate everyone and thereafter bribe to total victory. Kinda boring at the end of it.

In MTW, bribes are mainly used to deal with castles/citadels with pathetic garrisons lasting 5+ years.

I also bribe seldom:
- like Maeda Toshiie said, when I can't afford to keep my troops waiting a siege out for a long time, and I don't have too many troops (obviously). This is usually while blitzing. When I'm already established, I don't care about losing a few hundred troops, I can usually get them back easily enough. Especially since this is a good way to get rid of obsolete troops: just send them to assault a castle http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
- like katank said, in the beginning of the game when I can get some units I would otherwise not have access to; most common example, longbows in Wales.
- good generals ? I usually somehow manage to get mine. Maybe not always 8-9 stars, but good enough for my needs. I usually don't care about wasting 50k + for a few units from which I only intend to use the general, even if I can well afford it.
It makes a battle with him all the more interesting.

yep. training up your heirs and making sure your rulers have high influence means that good generals will always be there.

so just bribe into strategic locations and access units.

I never get the point of people going out of their way to bribe el cid.

sure, he's a talented general but he's not worth the cost.

the 6* fine leader camel from the Eggy if he has civil war or the eggy get eliminated is also expensive, never costs less than 10k.

kill those are cheaper.
