View Full Version : Longest time of VI Peace
I have just finished a campaign as Saxons, the peace ran from 793 to 886, everyone was allied to each other for about 90 years. The only faction to lose lands gave up provinces to rebels. This is the first time I have seen other lands built up as well as mine, including navies for everyone except the Welsh.
How long was your longest world wide, or Individual peace?

I think the longest was about 15 years for me.

I'd say it was probably 30 - 40 years during the reign of my first King as the Welsh. Following that, and a long build-up for most of the mainland factions, I could say that I just watched from the sidelines for the nezt 50 years as the Saxons and the Mercians tore each other apart. End result of that war being that the Mercians now have a firm grip on most of England, with only parts of Scotland [Under control of the Scots.] holding out, and a small pocket of re-emerged Northumbrian resistance which looks likely to collapse again in a few years time. As ever, the Vikings seem to be nowhere, [Having never really gained any kind of foothold.] and after a fairly protracted war with the Scots, the Irish have taken control of all of the provinces in Ireland. Subsequently, they turned their fleets against me. Now it looks as though the Mercians are about to complete their manoeuvre by invading from inland. And I'd always thought it'd be a safe bet to stick by the Saxons. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
Peace for any length of time doesn't look to be a likely prospect now.

The longest peace I ever had was playing as the Saxons, and I had unified England by inheritance (in 891), and my peace lasted until the year 1006, exactly 115 years. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif After that I went to war with the Scots and Welsh. Vikings didn't interfere cuz I turned them Catholic http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif
by inheritance? how many factions did you inherit from?

i think mine was 60-65 years or so, on the MTW map.
I don't see much point in going too far beyond that because usually the only reason I do stay at peace for longer than 5 years is to build reqs for fancier units (CK, JHI, etc).
After that, nothing changes anymore, because I already have the biggest navy, the biggest army, the biggest income, enough nice generals not to worth bothering to make/raise more, most/all of the upgrades in weps/armour, etc. So what's the point in waiting any longer ?
However, you did raise an interesting point.
On the MTW map, I do believe that staying at pease may be a challenging issue, especially for some factions (HRE, anyone ? :P)
In my case, it was with the Spanish; only had 2 direct neighbors, the French and Eggy or something.
wow, that's pretty crazy. 60 years, almost a game.
maybe if I stop blitzing everything in sight, my games will last longer.
I remember even the GA HRE game I played with PseRamsses that I don't think I had any more than a decade of peace.
by the end, I was at war with no less than 6 factions

heh, katank, with the HRE I don't think you _can_ have more than a decade of peace ;P
but seriously now, that's really the only reason (in my case) why it may be worth waiting for a long time, at peace.
Because I know that if the buggers provoke me and I respond, I'm not gonna be able to restrain myself and just repel their attack, but I'm gonna wipe them out...And then others will have the wrong impression that I'm vulnerable, and they'll attack me in turn, and there I am in the middle of a World War which can only end one way...and there, I've finished the game again and I still haven't played with Grand Inquisitors/JHI/Lancers/GothicKnights/Gendarmes/etc.
You get my point, I'm sure.
That was one of the reasons I started playing non-Early campaigns. In my naivite, I thought that, well, since you're already past the first "age", you won't start again from peasants and spearmen; surely I'll already have most of the infrastructure for building early units in place, at least in the more important/developed province(s).
Yeah, right. I played a bit in High, and you still pretty much start from scratch. And it annoys me. How the hell am I ever gonna get to Chivalric Knights when I start with a Castle and Armourer and Horse Breeder ? It'll take me 60 damn years
Anyway, don't let me get carried away and stray from the point.. https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
It takes time to build enough buildings and make enough money to be able to experiment and have fun with things like 5* assassins, or a full stack of gold/gold Lancers, or a full stack of v2 CK, etc...
That's why in most of my games I try to maintain peace for a long time, in order to build all the requirements for all the fancy units.
This is where, I believe, the game is unbalanced.
In that you make lots and lots of money and have nothing to use it on. Even with 1 million florins, you still can't build the damn wood hut in 1 year instead of 4
That's a bit absurd. I always end up with a huge income/treasury, but still have to wait countless years until I finish my master xxx...Gah
Of course, I still love the darn game https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
that's my problem.
I've barely managed to access castle level units in many cases.
keep level units are high tech by my standards since my low tech rush can destroy most anything extremely quickly and the war is pretty much decided.
I lament never having built CKs except for a High game and never built things like lancers no matter how much I try to restrain from kicking the AI butt back to the stone age.
Maybe 10 years at the beginning of the game. After that I start attacking and the whole world goes to war.
absolutely no lull?
I was able to get peace as the HRE for about 10 years or so 50 years into the game.
I just won a series of nice defensive battles so the enemies were all licking their wounds as their forces were shattered and I also did the siege all border provinces and pull out strategy for getting a ceasefire in many cases.
soon, world war erupted again.

come on, katank, it's gotta be fun to have a fotress + siege cannon towers + culverin towers and defend against a (futile attempt to a) siege
Or the contrary, to come with your 16 culverins and bomb the hell out of the poor frightened peasants and their ponies
Or try the more or less famous 8CK + 8CFK combo
I would really like it if starting in Late or High gave you more development to being with...
well, I like the early games better.
hitting the enemy without forts means no need to chase down every single router which can be difficult at times.

2, Mercia and Northumbria
The longest time i went without war was an Early Russian game (MedMod) and the peaceful era lasted about 100 years. Locked down the steppe and just waited, trading with everybody becoming the richest nation in Europe waiting out the horde.
riches are great if you turtle and try to avoid war, at least without too many factions.
I'm oftentimes only at war with a single faction for a long time.

Yeah I tutled once after a war with the turks as the eggys and built perfect stacks then I unleased war after the mogels came. Civil war soon broke out after I captured 4 different kings all over the map. It was pretty fun.
I had been setting them up for this with agents for years, so it wasn't that great.
civil war for all four factions? that is nice.

Like Monk I´ve experienced a peace that lasted well over 100 years playing the Russians (not MM). I took all the steppes and set my "iron curtain" at Prussia, Volhynia, Moldavia and Georgia all within the first 20 years into the game. Didn´t have a fight until the horde decided to wake me up.
I've actually experienced no faction fights in about 4 decades now in my current Turkish game after I secured the Golden Triangle and kicked the Byz off the main land.
I've used my Syrian boys to sack any scouting agents ASAP and now very few people have agents to scout me for an attack.
I also established a nice border at Lithuania/Kiev, Greece/Bulgaria, and Navarre/Aragon and own everything in between.
