Hi y'all
First I'd like to thank this wonderful forum for giving me the opportunity to be a part of it and for sharing all the helpful info you need to know about this game. I've played this game for a whole year, before I realized that I wasn't getting any better and looked for some info on the net. Luckily, I stumbled upon this furom, and since, I my game play has improved so much more
I'm wrapping up my campaign with the Aragonese. It was year 1300, and I had only 2 or 3 provinces to conquer for a TD game. I pride myself in fighting every battle, even the most unimportant ones. I also tech up and micromanage all provinces. Needless to say by the end of the campaign it takes forever to complete a year. Takes me about a month for a campaign. IMO you get to feel the faction better, you get to familiarize with all their weaknesses and advantages. Unfortunatelly, I didn't have the chance to use any of the famous Lancers, but I did get to enjoy the teched up Chivalrick Knights from Tolouse. Anyway...
I was getting excited about starting my new campaign with the Byzantines (yeah, I play them in alfabetical order, how lame is that? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-juggle.gif ) So when the Pope reappeared, it was like 20 years since he was gone just when I conquered the last Byzantine province, I was like oh, nooo He had over 3000 troops all FK, MS, PA, A, Arqueb, Gunners, CS, CMA. No junk units. I gathered around 2000 of my best troops. My initial army consisted of 7 CMAs, 2 CKs, 2 Jinettes, 1 RK, 2 CS, 1 Culverin and 1 Mangonel ( the later 2 replaced by a Turcoman unit and a PA unit. I had a really good defencive position in Rome. I've never seen a map like that - I was on a plateau with steep slopes - it was just perfect At the end it was : 2325 dead papists vs 137() dead of my own guys. That's like 17 to one kill ratio (considering Pope's army was no junk). I am just amazed with the win. I thought about how beautiful it was all day today. I did save the replay http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif .
Anyway, just wanted to share my hapiness with y'all, that's all. Anyone else had experiences like that? Share them here, I'd be glad to read about them.

Congrats. I find any victory gives me that grin, but especially big kills with not many losses, though of course it depends if you are defending or attacking.

Hi
Yep, feels good.
I also have recently came to that sort of performance. Playing the Turkish i was somewhat overconfident about my all powerful Janissary Army and left a province (Cordoba or Valencia, i forget) with "only" a stack of Otoman Foot and Saracen with an average Ghulam General, leftover from a jihad, some 800 something soldiers.

I was unsure of what it was going to be like. I was attacked by over 2000 French and although i knew i could hold a line for awhile i was unsure because, besides the General, i had no high attack, fast units to flank the enemy.

Well, they performed great. Discipline in your troops is a great asset. A good Turkish army performs as its told (besides Futuwas and Ghazis but you gotta love them, too...).

The body count was far greater than prisoners taken, because i lacked the cavalry to pursuit, and the General got his Skilled defender Virtue.

Later, in the same game, i was attacked in the same eastern province (Bulgaria, i think) by roughly 2x4000 troops, a combination of Polish high tech units and a French crusade.
I defended with Janissaries, Turcoman horse, some AHC, too.

Lost 180, captured 1400, killed as much. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

On normal https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif . Still, I am proud of myself. I don't consider myself to be an expert yet, but I'll get there.

yeah, it's still pretty good.

it's just that it would have been really impressive on expert considering the 30% combat bonus they get which makes those hard core enemy troops even tougher and the +4 morale which makes they take inhuman punishment before routing.

I once had a 14.5:1 kill ratio against the GH https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif It was in Livonia on a flat plain. Of course by the time the battle was fought the Mongols had been beaten so many times before their morale was in the sewer.

Congrats

It is the wonderful outnumbered outgunned victories that make the game that much more entertaining and really increases the love for the game.

Nice but not as nice as my
12055kills to 588 deaths
But I lost that one.
But I had a 10500 to 8 win once.

Quote[/b] (katank @ July 16 2004,17:59)]were you killing peasants with knights, capo?
No, no, it was Napoleonic Total War, I had all riflemen and cannons and cannister and I fought 4 or 5 full armies of militia.
My Best MTW victory was like 5000 to 100 or somthing.

You can rack up a pretty high kill ration in NTW, I once killed 713 men at no loss to myself.

Capo, How did you get a 50:1 kill ratio on MTW?

katank
07-18-2004, 03:21
I've had a case of a 200 to 0 victory in MTW.

enemy had no missiles, I had 12 futtuwwas and I shredded their units before they could even make contact and most routed.

NTW doesn't really count much since the arty is too OP.

Best for me was just over 3000 kills (since I kill everyone I capture always https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/ceasarno.gif ) to just under 200 losses. Even when you're charging cavs into routing men, you still get a few losses. Do this 4-5 times and you've practically lost 3/4 of a unit sometimes. Not always though. Its usually around 15 or so cavs from a unit.

katank

are you charging the cav headon into the routers?

I charge from the flank or rear and lose 8 or so max from my cav.
