Game Over!!!

Interesting situation concerning a crusade. Italian launch crusade against HRE heading for Swabia from Corsica. When crusade reaches Tuscany, I land an army in Corsica and torch the chapter house and take over the province. Next turn crusade disappears as crusade BUT remains as a regular Italian army? I don't understand...I thought if the chapter house that launches the crusade is destroyed the crusade fails, NOT turn into regular army for faction that launched the crusade.
I had to fight a regular Italian army in Venice consisting of crusader units...most interesting battle I had to fight against the Italians so far. https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
disbanding a crusade or losing a crusade means that the crusade troops are converted to a regular army in the closest territory.
technically, you could disband a crusade if you are getting mauled back home to get some good troops to help although if that's the case, your influence is likely low so you can't afford the disbanding.

Thanks for the clarification Katank. Next time I'll destroy the chapter house as soon as I see the cross go up...since the only crusades being launched are being aimed at me(HRE), I was excommed a decade ago(WHAT the HRE excommed, NO WAY. https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
The Eggy's are so big and powerful the only catholic faction able to fight them is me. I'm too busy fighting the Spanish right now to really bother with the Eggy's.
Thanks again for the fast reply.
no problem.
smashing them ASAP is a good idea. crosses counts just as much as a crusade if lost.
I think there is a case where a Crusade will get disbanded but NOT return any of the troops.
That situation, which has happened to me more than a few times, is when I send a Crusade to take a non-Christian territory, but before I get there some other Christian faction takes it. In those cases I get a message at the beginning of the year that say something to the effect of "This territory is now back in the hand of Christians. Your crusade is disbanded."
Mostly this will happen when I launch a crusade against a non-christian-held province that has a Christian army besiged in the castle.
Other somewhat oddball cases will occur when I take an Outremer province before some other Christian crusade arrives there, and they ask me to give it to them. When I say no, they attack me (A CHRISTIAN FACTION) and I get excommed
Once though, I (England) did this and the other guy (Spain) actually gave me the province.
So if some other Christian faction beats you to your Crusades's target, your crusade may get disbanded WITHOUT giving you back the troops in it.

it just came to my mind reading this post:
what happens if you destroy your chapter house yourself? will you get the crusader troops as regular army? does anyone know if it works?
i'm right off, to give it a try...

it does work
i started a crusade in wessex (english high) to valencia. and i destroyed my chaper house the same turn. next year i got the message my crusade was defeated. and i had the crusader army, including three units of knights templar, as normal units in wessex at my command
haha, word Looks like my Early armies will now be flush with Order Foot Soldiers and maybe some Templars

Just the job to fight that civil war caused by your ruler's vanished influence https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif .
I remember reading a post (prob. from katank, and therefore true https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif ) that said you lose almost a whole crown's-worth of influence from a defeated crusade/jihad. Take care...
The result of this tactic will most likely be a civil war, since every failed crusade lowers your influence a lot.
yep. very bad idea unless you are really desperate.
if you want tons of crusader troops, play as the Spanish and you'll be crusading in 8 years, doing the north africa crusade run would yield thousands of crusader troops.
I remember having 1.5 stacks of full units of knights santiago by the time I hit Sinai as well as 2 stacks of order foot and literally mountains of fanatics
