This screen was posted on Legiontotalwar forum. Some strange icons appears on the bottom of towns. What is it - any suppositions?

I guess that money icon shows the treasury of town or income/loss for current turn. Note that every town have its own treasury

The face icon may show the happiness/unhappiness of citizens or the level of rebellious moods.

hmm...the third icon (including the money) looks like a person, it probably means that city can make soldiers, the gears possible mean that city can make siege equipment...not sure on the saw and hammer, it would seem pointless to have that icon to denote the ability to build new buildings, since that would be mostly every province.

Anyone notice that icon in Rhodes? Looks like a woolly mammoth https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

The human face could indicate happyness, like the green being OK and the yellow so-so (red would indicate possible uprising, hmmm?)

The Rhodos thing would be a wonder indication? The colossus? Or am I seing things? https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-dizzy2.gif

All in all it looks very impressive and an excellent campaign map... an enormous improvement over the previous TW incarnations... This game is so close to perfection...

...if only they could ditch the pharaohs, dogz, catz, pigz, womenz and the rest of the kindergarten rubbish

That’s a great screenshot, thanks for posting it.

Just my thoughts when I look at the icons below the city names. I agree with the idea of the face and its colour representing happiness. Though I don’t see a red face. I see green, yellow, and one blue face (Sardis). I’m guessing that the blue face may have replaced the red we saw in MTW

The icon to the left of that looks like a man, with a star beside him. I’m wondering if the man might indicate that is currently an armed force within the walls of the city, and the star indicates that there is a general heading said force. In the city of Sardis there is no star beside the man, and the icon is a different colour. Perhaps this indicates that the general was just assassinated during the last turn. If we go by the idea that the blue face indicates a very unhappy population, perhaps the murder of the general aided in the lowering of city happiness.

The icon beside the man and the star on Rhodes, looks like a soldier. Perhaps it indicates that a unit of soldiers is currently being trained in that city.

The icon beside that looks like a saw and a hammer. This perhaps indicates that a building is currently under construction in that city.

The white gear icon might well indicate the construction of siege equipment. However, the fact that it is a different colour than the soldier and saw/hammer icons might suggest otherwise. Perhaps it indicates the building of an upgrade in the defences of the city. It could be that upgrading a city’s defences are done apart from regular city building in RTW. It could also indicate that repairs are being done to city defences. If an enemy attacks and knocks down several of your walls, they aren’t going to just magically reappear. There should be time needed to repair the damage. To me it doesn’t seem unreasonable to think that the game might keep track of specific damage to walls in a city.

Just my thoughts.

That's the statue of Zeus. If you look next to Halicarnassus you will see the Mausoleum and if you look at Rhodes you will see the shadow of the Colossus.

You guys are all focusing so much on the city icons, nobody noticed the lumber strategic resource south of the statue of Zeus. https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I dont think each city has a seperate treasury. I think the money represents expenses/income for each city.

Yeah, what a great screenshot. Good resolution, very informative Let's hope the final will be even better https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

they even use pixel shading for the water... lush

great strat map. One more thing besides the resource icons to note. North of Halicaransus their is a bridge.

Obviously control of that is a must. Is there a way to see where it may be forded without a bridge? can invading armies pause to build them? Or does crossing without a bridge simply slow you done bunches.....

Ack too many questions.

I also noticed "amphoras" (for example, to the north of Athens), "blocks of marble" (near Corinth and Sardis), "bars of iron" (between Sardis and Halicarnassus) and 3 kinds of ore: maybe "gold" (to the west of Byzantium), "silver" (on the isle of Euboea) and "lead" (to the east of Pergamum and Sardis).

The only bad thing I can possibly find to say about that is that someone needs to tell them how to spell denarii

I'm kinda sad at how far the map goes... Not far enough east, and it cuts the Parthians in half. https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

If you're referring to the mini map...I thought that even that scrolled from side to side? I could be wrong, but I thought they included more of Africa, as that looks like just as much as MTW, and I thought the map was going to be bigger. So my guess is it scrolls more east, maybe not much but a little.

Maedhros

If they want to include Egypt in any real way they do need to include more of Africa. Egypt would not have achieved the power and glory it did without Nubia.

Especially Nubian gold, and the quarries south of Giza and Saqqara. At that point in time this was a place of turmoil for them with Egyptian power waning and Nubian power waxing.

If a player wants to assert Egypt as a power again, he would have to first repacify the regions south.

I'm all for a larger Strat map but I don't see an indication it scrolls.

I'll hope.

Myabe that wooly mammoth icon in Rhodes means that Elephant units can be trained there? I know Rhodes is not the native habitat for elephants (lol) but I remember reading somewhere that elephants would require a special resource to build. Or possibly Rhodes is part of a trade link that means they get Elephants from, say, Egypt in exchange for a resource or resources to give to Egypt. just a thought.

Part of the river north of Sardis appears to have a sandy bank on both sides. Does that indicate that the river is fordable there? If so the river to the south can only be crossed at the bridge.

Okee, I've done much bitching about the different Unit Types; Unit Depiction , Unit Names, and HOW they fight. I still think they need serious tweaking/fixing.

HOWEVER, the campaign part looks to be awesome. This is an excellent revamping of this end of the game. It looks like they've thought of everything. I give it the big https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif . At least the years are Summer/Winter ... tho I still would have preferred all 4 seasons per year.

That "mammoth icon" is a guy holding a sword and shield. You're looking at it wrong. https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

I want to know why parts of some rivers are deeper blue.

MAybe if it's the light blue, you can pretty much cross it anywhere, but if it's the dark, it takes a bridge or the "sandy banks" to cross it?

SpencerH
07-22-2004, 16:36
The light blue part of the rivers is more like estuary since its the same colour as the med and I'd guess not crossable. The shallow river banks being fording sites looks/sounds reasonable.

But that would mean Greece is chock-full of completely impassable rivers. https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
