View Full Version : Changing unit size affects garrison/loyalty ratio?

I always play MTW on default unit sizes (vanilla spear unit = 100).
I am wrapping up my current English campaign over the wekend (provided my wife doesn't change these grand gaming plans I have https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-confused.gif ) and was considering messing around with unit sizes in my next campaign. Maybe try one game on tiny size or on huge size units.
Is huge like 200 spears?
Is Tiny like 50 spears?

Anyway, does the game engine also refigure all the other associated stats in proportion?

Meaning does a huge unit size double the build and maintainence costs of that unit?
Does a huge unit count double toward province loyalty or does the province loyalty factor needed also get bigger causing me to need the same 2 peasant armies at 200 men as it did at 100 men each?

Will my stacks be limited to 859 men still or does that go up and down as well?

Yes, I can find some of this out soon enough but things like the loyalty vs. garrison size question may not be so obvious to me.

Anyone know?

From Frogbeastegg's unit guide:
Appendix 2: Unit size chart.
This chart shows how many men there are in each type of unit on each of the unit size settings in MTW.

On small size: Bodyguards 20 cavalry 20 infantry 30 spears 50
On default size: Bodyguards 20 cavalry 40 infantry 60 spears 100
On medium size: Bodyguards 20 cavalry 53 infantry 80 spears 133
On large unit size: Bodyguards 33 cavalry 66 infantry 100 spears 166
On huge unit size: Bodyguards 40 cavalry 80 infantry 120 spears 200

Huge units are twice as expensive to buy, twice as expensive to upkeep, take two times the building time and are twice as effective as garrison.

Maximum number of men in a stack is doubled as well.
