WOW, look They got rabbit ears https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
BTW I just noticed that Skythian noblewomen are considered "Superior" (on par with Spartan Hoplites and Cataphracts, huh?) https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif
Oh, I love Fantasy: Total War, now featuring the famous Amazons https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

They are probably "Superior archers" to normal ones https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif
OMG What's up with that helm? https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif Make them female and they would look like Playboy Bunnies on Horseback https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

Aaahh The helm its horrible If I ever see these guys in battle no way could I take them seriously. Minus the helm the rest of the unit is fairly OK though. I dont know if the helm is supposed to be historically acccurate or not. Any Macedonian experts out there care to enlighten us?
Rosacrux

Historical accurate? The previous unit are the mythical Amazons and you are wondering about how historical accurate the Companions are? https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-confused.gif
Well, a companion-like body of full-time elite riders existed not only in Macedonia but in the whole hellenistic world (hellenistic kingdoms, that is) at the timeframe of RTW, most probably though they were far from the known (Alex's) Companions not only in terms of value, but also in function and most notably, status (they were pretty much professional soldiers, while the older Companions were rich landowners-nobles that fought also).

This unit looks good. That strange wings are just a trifle in comparison with other freaky units.

Byt he way Rosacrux do you happen to have a drawing or something of what the Companions looked like in this time period so we can compare?

The helmet is a boeotian helmet, prefered by the macedonian cavalry.
picture and description (http://monolith.dnsalias.org/~marsares/warfare/army/m_cavalr.html)
The "wings" though looking a little bit strange on the static model are plumes or feathers that were worn to either signify rank or status (so they are not that out of place on the companions)

Well, it could be worse. At least the only real bad thing is the bizzare wings. Oh well.

I guess feathers do not render well in the RTW engine...

I hate to tell you this but is you look at the Alexander the Great movie trailer I think you can see helmets which are similar to the ones in the unit profile.

Look, the Celts had some wacky helmets that looked similar to the ones these guys are wearing. For all we know, CA could have hit the historical nail irght on the head, so i'll reserve my judgemnent for now.

https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-inquisitive.gif Um... you know there are pictorial evidence (Alexanders Sarcophogus, etc.). CA doesn't need to invent crap to make the game good.

yes, but alman9898, you kill random people and drink their blood.
Maybe they could sweep the "wings" back a bit. So they don't incite giggles from the opposing army.
Perhaps that is the point, it worked for el presidente (aka shrub)

Darn, if my spouse sees me playing RTW and she takes a look at this... ahem... pink (is that supposed to be Parthian? The pink men on the ground, I mean) a whole set of new ideas on how to deplete our bank account from the last Euro remaining, shall come to her https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
Involving, of course, dresses, shoes (mostly shoes, yeah, and some more shoes) blouses, hats, random assorted accesories and similar stuff - all in this fabulous pink https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

Is it me or do these pajama men look like they spend a lot of time running??
Can't be a good unit to field.

Guys i knew we shouldnt have mentioned Asterix in front of CA people , now the companions got his helmet. Something tells me the Macedonian Phallanx will be using Menirs istead of Sarissas....

Now come on,
first you criticise CA for not being true to history.
Then they get everything right on a unit (Boetian helmet, linen/leather curiass, lance, horse hair plume and yes, decorative plumes on the helmet sides)
and just because you think it looks funny you tell them its bad and they should get rid of it
Imagine how funny it might have looked from a persian conscripted farmers point of view, (all dressed in pink and badly equiped) seeing these guys charging at you https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
And try to tell him he looks like a bunny:

I like the unit. I understand their depiction of feathers on the helm, but not the way it looks. Those look more like big metal wings than long feathers. That is my only criticism though.

For God's sake people stop your incessant bitching I can understand being angry over Egypt, I am too, or the head hurlers and bull warriors. But getting worked up over a fantastic unit because the feathers are going the wrong way. Shut up people. You didnt bitch vermy much about the Jomsvikings, even though they had horns, for some reason yuo didnt bitch over the Sherwood Forresters, which by all means was much worse than this. I'm all for Europa Barbarorum, but your getting all worked up over a smple flaw in his helmet. And they did have feathered helemts, srry if thier graphics designer, didnt get it 100% accurate, but they did has feathered helmets.
To CA: Excellent unit

I don't know what peeps problem is with the feather plumes. They are fairly accurate, perhaps a bit wide, but otherwise fine.
What was your expectation of the Campanion Cavalry if not this?
And the fantasy crowd has no leg to stand on either. Oh wait, yes, no spikes...
shingen has got it right, it does look funny though to be honest https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
