View Full Version : Trading with rebels
I was playing spain and I eliminated the Italians as a faction. Their provinces of Corsica and Sardinia became rebel, labeled as Enemy on the map.
I would like to make peace with these rebels so that I can trade with them. I cannot offer an armistice (dropping an emissary generates bribe offer). I tried withdrawing my ships from around them to generate auto-armistice but that did not work.
Of course, I could easily invade and grab them. But it is much more lucrative to use them as a trading partner (I have ports and trade outposts in all my other provinces).
Is there a way to convert an Enemy rebel to neutral or allied?

Unfortunately, the computer treats the rebels as one faction. Therefore, the only way to create a truce with one rebel faction is to end contact will all rebel factions everywhere.
that means no land borders and also no ships bordering their regions as well as no agents in sight of them.
note: beating them into a castle and then pulling out of the province counts as no contact for that province.

i was under the impression that trade with rebel territories didn't happen under any circumstances. does trade happen with neutral rebel territories that have ports?

Absolutely -- if you're not at war with the rebels.
If you destroy one group of rebels in Tunisia, for example, that means you won't get any trade from rebels in Wessex until you make peace with the rebels.

This brings up a good point for my wish list. Having rebels being treated as seperate factions would be beatutiful. It would be fun to ally with the right group of rebels and help/let them grow to be a more and more powerful thorn in the sides of your enemies. Then you could choose to support the rebels of another faction's civil war to help disrupt that faction and stall there growth.
that would be insanely difficult.
I did see some strong rebel factions before though.
for about a decade, my vast French empire was seesawing with the rebels for the control of the steppes.
the steppe rebels actually had more forces than me locally and probably a lot more than most factions on the board.
apparently, about 2/3 of the steppes were all a united rebel faction and they built up to citadel level in most provinces
