Man, the game may not even be out yet - but the guide will be.

I bought the guide to M:TW - what the hell was I thinking??? https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

I'll probably pass on this one as the M:TW guide had a wealth of useless info. IMO.

Why would you buy a guide to a game which is obviously being dumbed down so anybody and their idiot grandpa can play it?

Furthermore a game that has been repeatedly stated as having as much info within the game as possible so that you should never need to open a manual.
Eg the tech tree is fully visible now within the game https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wall.gif
I've never bought a strategy guide before because they contain things that should have been in the manual in the first place & I'm certainly not buying one for Rome.

Interestng,... for the dull witted, those that dont care, those that dont remember, and/or those that did not buy the previous guide books,....the previous guide books (STW), (MTW) were made avaible two days after the game was released. Perhaps a long shot, but maybe the game will be released on Sept 12.....More likely the stated date of 'release' of the guide is only a 'guess'.

Guides are now getting released earlier and earlier and getting crappier and crappier. Strategy game and other competitive game guides are never good since they contain strategies that are decent at the start but quickly become obsolete. Guides for RPGs and games like that are more useful though recent ones contain too many errors and omissions. I know for instance that the Ninja Gaiden guide only had around 47 out of the 50 scarabs listed.

I think that the RTW guide will have lots of errors and strategies that will be obsolete in less than a week.

At any rate why would you need to buy a Guide when you have the Org? There's always people around here willing to share strategies

I'll get it - with the sheer number of units in the game, the guide will be a nice way of presenting their stats. The MTW guide was decent value - it also included a fair number of useful tips.

The only guide i'll need ever will be here, on this Forum.

Yes, guides are now created based on beta builds of the product, which means if something changes before the final code freeze and gold duplication, the guide is going to be incorrect https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wall.gif

I don’t know if you all familiar with it, but the prima strategy guides and alike are being shipped/brought to stores some good while before the actual game appears. Selling strategies, gentlemen. Nothing unusual to see it happen with Rome.

The chapters on the combat bonuses, morale modifiers and unit stats are what sold me on the MTW Strategy Guide. I refered to those chapters a lot in the first year the game was out. They are well written chapters with only a few errors, although, a fairly major error on the morale effect of routing friends has recently been discovered. Those chapters were a basis for discussion about the combat engine which produced more info from the devs in threads here online. I've never read the strategy chapters because I prefer to figure that out on my own, and can't comment on those. The printed guides are a bit costly, but sometimes you can get a discount if you buy the game and the guide at the same time. In anycase, I'll wait until I see the RTW guide before deciding about buying it, and I don't think the guide is essential since all the important info eventually appears online.
