View Full Version : Swiss Pikemen in Byzantium!?!?!?
I was reading a Byz guide at Gamespot.com.
This guide claims a couple of things that I understood to be false:
1. You can build Swiss Pikemen in Byzantium (the author suspected that this was some kind of bug).
2. Varangian guards are, contrary to popular belief, available in later eras (author starts in early I believe)
Surely these are not true?
Thanks,
Micah

In MTW v 1.0 it was possible to build Swiss Armoured Pikemen (SAP) in every province on the map. I
suspect that they are still possible to build as the Byz, but only in Switzerland.
And the Varangians are buildable in both early and high, but in v 1.0 the ages wasn't working so I suspect they were buildable in late to.
So the guide is true, but outdated.
Ah-Ha
Makes perfect sense - Thank you

Anyone who conquers the switzerland should be able to produce them there so long they have the necessary buildings.
I can't remember, but I suppose you could make islamic swiss pikemen, that is, still produce them after converting them to islam... https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
muslims don't get county militia unless you mod the game so no pikers.

The muslims lack of the county milita in their tech tree, hence they cannot train any form of pikes, swiss pike or SAP. However, if they capture one at the right place, they *may* be able to train SP and SAPs. Muslims still can train swiss halbs , since they have access to town militia.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm,......
I am very curious to find that out

In order to do that you should bribe the garisson of the castle, that way when you take the province everything is untouched. https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
