A simple, boring and common as shoes answer f'ya; I like anything good and loath anything bad. https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/flat.gif Being a musician myself has taught me this. https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Alas, I admit that my understanding of popular stuff is next to my recognition of quantum mechanics. https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-anxious.gif

Alas, my knowledge of quantum mechanics is much greater than my knowledge of current music. I'm still a late 60's - early 70's era western & rock fan.

Flaming someone for his/her preferences in music is just plain silly.
I also like a lot; there are only a few music genres that cannot please me (which are soul/funk, jazz and death metal and everything related).
Some of my favourites: Tricky, Blur, Coldplay, Massive Attack, Lamb, Goldfrapp, The Streets, White Stripes, Soledad Brothers, Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, Snow Patrol, Box of Frox, Tali, Zoot Women, Suede, Morrissey... etc etc.

As most people here know, I am a massive Pink floyd fan. I mean, I couldn't be more floydious if I spent 15 years trying.
Jimi Hendrix is my god, and I am also a Led Zeppelin fan boy.
The rest;
Rush, Yes, Deep purple, The Who, Van Halen, AC/DC (preferably Bon Scott era) The Doors, the Beatles, Black Sabbath, early Metallica, Muse, G'N'R, and many many more.
So long as it has an awesome riff and a fantastic solo, I'm cool with it.

What he said https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Except add in Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Led Zep, Alice Cooper, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Velvet revolver and Aerosmith. Among others https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
You like GN'R, BKS? Heard any Velvet reolver stuff? I love GN'R's old stuff, but its amazing what Slash and Duff can get done with no Axl to grind. They've done in a year what Axl's band (I can't bring myself to call them GN'R with only Axl in as a founding member) haven't done in 11 years.

I'm right there with the Big King.
Pink Floyd. https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif
Seen them three times live, and Roger Waters once. All the shows were excellent.
Hey Big King, just bought the director's cut of Pompeii on DVD two days ago. The picture is crystal clear and so is the sound. Put it up on the Sony Wega, pumped it though the JVC stereo. Excellent.
Now kids, this song is called Saucerful of Secrets. https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-gossip.gif
Also, Deep Purple, Simon & Garfunkle, Jefferson Airplane, Vanilla Fudge, Tchaikovsky, beatles.
And Frank Sinatra. Just gotta love Sinatra.

You can pretty much ditto his whole list minus Rush. The lead singer always sounds like he just got kicked in the bean bag.

My favorite bands are Pearl Jam, The Verve Pipe, Maroon 5, Coldplay, Soundgarden, and Goo Goo Dolls. I prefer more mellow and relaxing music.
Though I will listen to heavier stuff when Im in the mood. Mostly the mood Im in determines the music Im listening to.

https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-yes.gif I understand. A lot of people don't like Weiland. I personally think that for all his many many failings, Axl (especially working with Izzy) was a brilliant lyricist. Him and Izzy wrote some great lyrics (Mr Brownstone, anyone?), but VR's ain't as good. Apparently, Izzy wrote some stuff for them, but Weiland didn't want to use it. VR are nowhere near Appetite for Destruction-era GN'R, but I love the ballads on Contraband, and some of Slash's solos are incredible. The Fall to Pieces solo has replaced Rocket Queen as my favourite Slash solo https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-guitarist.gif.
Given the choice between VR and AFD-era GN'R, I'd always go for GN'R. But Axl turned that band into a pantomime as early as '92 (near the end of Use Your Illusion world tour, when he started turning up hours late and canceling shows), and he's been working on Chinese Democracy for 11 years now (and you can bet he'll want all the guitars overdubbed so Buckethead isn't on the album anymore, which'll take another few years for him). VR's out there, doing stuff. New GN'R aren't.

I'm with Axeknight, mainly, but following on from Sigurd In Norway I'd namecheck Madrugada. Best indie rock band from the north of Norway surely. Seriously they are good (in a Kings of Leon sort of way but better)
Did no one mention the Cult? Shame. Also Sisters of Mercy, Alice in Chains, Saxon, ah, you get the picture. can't remember if we had Motorhead already; best band to ride a motorbike too anyway.
Not too much club stuff here so lets add the Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Leftfield. Orbital for a chill out.
the one thing I really can't be doing with is nu-metal bands singing about how bad life is as a Californian teenager. Get over it.

yeah, Tarja´s voice reason takes the edge off the metal side of it doesn´t it? https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif
and she´s not bad for the eyes either https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif
if you can pick up or download Wishmaster i think that one is the best of theirs...at least on the subject of Tarja´s singing....but they didn´t have the same bass player at the time so that album doesn´t have his vocals.
also the live dvd From Wishes to Eternity is a great buy.
https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/ceasaryes.gif
and if you like this check out Lacuna Coil.....a little more gothic..but equaly good

Well I can listen to most types of music. from medieval(-ish) trough classical to metal. The only type I really don't like is the type where people scream alot.
As for groups, I too must admit that Nightwish is one of the groups I enjoy more than most.
They are exellent to ride my bike to. Fast paced , but also calm so you don't get too worked up. Today I went to buy the new album. I ended up buying them all, eventhough I had downloaded must of the songs previously. But the 6 CD where part of a campaign or something, so I got all six of them for 517 Kr. Which is not bad considering that CDs normally cost about 150 kr each.
Sigurd, If you want the rest of Nightwish's albums Platekompaniet is where I bought them. I don't know if it is a national campaign or a local though. They cost 80 Kr each.
Dîn-Heru shouting is in a lot of metal and as the fans call it Hardcore. But yes i have similar taste in addition to likig some hip hop and very little rap https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif

Yes I know. Nightwish also has some songs which are a bit loud on the vocal part. But, it gives me a headache to listen too, so I don't if it is avoidable.
Edit: By shouting I mean the singing where you can hardly distinguish (sp?) the words. If it is loud but understandable, then it is ok.
