View Full Version : How big is a Custom Battle Map?

I hope someone actually knows the answer to this, but I thought I would share my rough and ready estimates with everyone.

What I did was design an flat may of each size, choose a custom battle - peasants versus a ballista so I could walk my peasants round unmolested, re size the battle plan so it measured 5 cm on my screen and then walk the peasants from their starting position to the edge of the map, pause, measure how far they have moved from the starting position, escape from the game and see how long it took This gives me a rough idea of scale.

In the small map, the unised border was 0.8 out of 5 cm. The peasants took 2 mimutes to walk to the edge of the map. This represented a distance of 1.2 cm on the battle plan.

I reckon walking speed is 2 m/s, so they walked 240 m. This scales up to 680 m x 680 m of useable battle area with an 160 m border.

Similar measurements lead me to believe that the medium map is 1000 m x 1000 m, again with an 160 m border, and that the large map is 1700 m x 1700 with a 200 m border.

This is hopelessly inaccurate Does anyone know how big each map is, or at the least have a better way of determining size.
