The market is changing. I feel it in the sales, I feel it in the shops, I smell it in the development. Much that once was profitable, is not, for none now play it, or remember.

It began with the forging of the great games. Command and conquer was given to the war gamers, bloodthirsty, tactical and great strategists. Age of Empires was given to the historians, uncompromising, relentless and ever seeking accuracy, and Civilization, Civilization was given to the Megalomaniacs, Who above all else, desire power.

For within these games was bound the strength and will to govern each genre. But they were all of them deceived, for another game was made. In the land of computers, in the offices of CA the dark programmers forged in secret a master game to surpass all others. And into this game they poured their cruelty, their malice and their will to dominate all games.

One game to rule them all

One by one the games of the opposition fell to the power of the great game, but there were some who resisted. A last alliance of Developers from Civ and C&C marched upon the developers of CA and in the shops they fought for the profits of their games.

Victory was near, but the power of the great game, could not be undone. It was in this moment, when all sales had stopped that The Age of Kings, son of the great AOE, took up it's predecessors sword. Shogun, the enemy of the Real time strategy games was defeated. The game passed to the gamers, who had this one chance to destroy CA forever, but the hearts of gamers are easily corrupted, and the Total War series has a will of it's own. It betrayed the fans, to their boredom, and some things that should not have been forgotten were lost.

History became legend, Legend became Myth and for two and a half years the game passed from all knowledge. Untill, when chance came the game released a new title. Medieval was released, and was taken deep into the heart of the gamers, where it consumed them. This game had un-natural long life and for many more years it poisoned their minds. There, deep in the sales records the game waited.

Darkness crept back into the markets of the world. Rumor grew of a shadow, whispers of a nameless release, and the game of power, perceived. It abandoned Medieval, but then something happened that the game did not intend. It was influenced by the most unlikely of creatures. The fans, the fans of medieval, for the time will come when fans will shape the fortunes of all games...

One Game To Rule Them All,
One Game To Find Them.
One Game To Bring Them All,
And With Their History, Blind Them.

They were once men, great kings of men. Then the gaming industry gave to them nine word processors. Blinded by their greed they took them without question, one by one falling to darkness. And now they are slaves to its will. They are the Game Critics, neither living nor dead. At all times they feel the presence of the game, drawn to the power of the One...

...

Saruman: The hour is later than you think. The Industry's forces are already moving. The Critics have left Minas Morgul.
Executive of CA: The Nine.
Saruman: They crossed the River Isen on Midsummer's Eve, dressed as typists in black.
Executive of CA: They've reached the Shire?
Saruman: They will find the Game and kill the one who carries it.

I thought you all might like it, at least I hopes so as it took me ages to copy down the wording of the intro, and then quite a while to paraphrase it right. Glad to have amused. https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

The evolution of Medieval games like this has been remarkable. For me it went,Age of Empires,Lords of the Realm II,then Medieval Total War,which I have always thought was a updated, better version of Lords of the Realm II.The games are so similar,MTW is alot more involved, and has much more, than Lords of the Realm.
