LAME LAME LAME CHEATER!!!

the f****** AI attacked my bridge province, I had set up my perfectly balanced army and then the ai... the AI JUST WAITED!!!! #@$@$#@#$@!!!! It made me attack so I lost

very lame ...it attacked me and did nothing but defend http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/mad.gif

GRrr... just had to let off som steam...

lmao. You really shouldn't attack the attackers in a bridge province. I mean its not the worst thing you could do, but a lot of times they'll try and bait you onto the bridge. If they're the attackers then they have to work against the clock, not you. So just be patient, and if time runs out and they don't even attack, so what, you still win. Looks like they got you to do what they wanted though. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Well, I hate the timer so I rarely use it in SP. If you would have cranked up the time-slider to super-speed, I bet they would have attacked eventually. If not, then you have to bait the attack...a bit tricky but it can be done.

...duh...

I had the timer off, hate the timer, the AI did nothing for 2 minutes on super speed, I attacked with a tiny goup of YS (20 men or so) but they got shot to pieces by 3 archer units and 20 musketeers ,after which they were engaged by one unit of archers and the remaining 10 men routed, the rest of the AI army was still way back.

SO then I send 2 HC units over the bridge, attacked the archers,destroyed one unit and the musketeers, then I withdrew them from the enemy units, in the meanwhile I had gotten all my men across, placed the archers on the little hill, Y units in front and 2 ND n top, enemy attacked tok out quite a few but my defensive force was no match fo the monks,ND and NC army, f they had attacked I could've easily defended the bridge, but not when I had to attack the province...

I just quited shogun and I'm going to load the game again when I'm at peace again and throw some more units in that province...

it still sucks ass though.

When experiencing a "stubborn" AI... try marching a group of YS half-way across the bridge. Place 'em on Hold/Hold and get your arhcers / musk close to the water's edge. The AI should move units towards you, leave the YS .... don't move. You should be able to at least cripple the emeny or deplete some arrows.

it didnt move at all! it had it's archers and musketeers in a advanced position, that's why my HC got over without much problems, it held all of it's troops back except the ranges ones, it only moved it's army once my HC encountered the archers...

it just sucks.

actually taht happened to me once takeda and hojo attack my bridge province (hojo only had 1 unit of like 17 men lol, but takeda had like 700 men) and they just stood there so i speed up the timer and the ynever attacked so in the last minuted i had my cav sneak in egged em on ran back and they charged, my arcehrs got kills then it ended...odd if u ask me.

What happends if you are defending and the computer runs out of time? Does his whole army just return to the staging province?

it's lame for it kind of cheated for the AI had all the time in the world and it was supposed to attack...maybe I'll have to reinstall the timer and set it to an hour or so...

I always turn the timer off to, it gets on my nerves when your perfectly planned pincer attack runs out of time...
But whats worse, MUCH MUCH worse, is when one unit of the ai still lives and isnt routing, you have to search the whole batle field and usually run out of time....or patience, I usually just exit, load, and fight the battle again or even(god forbid) auto calculate
