View Full Version : GameSpy: logon errors

CBR

Most if not all players have had logon errors for the last 2 weeks. For me they went away after last weekend but came back again when weekend started.

Now I dont know how the community is supposed to react. But we are going to use GameSpy for RTW too and we should see even more people on the server.

That there will be small problems that last a day or two is annoying but acceptable. But IMO its simply not acceptable if the problem just stays there for weeks.

Will we see the same type of unstable server with RTW and if we do have problems, where are the players supposed to go to complain?

Im just a bit tired of having GameSpy spam me with PM's about their latest video interview etc but they cant provide some kind of info about the problems and when its fixed.

For those who tried to play VI first time last night, I can only say that it is NOT usual business having to wait for 3-4 minutes to log in , after having a log-on error for about 4(luck applied) to 13 times(yep, and you wait for about 1 minute in order to retry logging on every time you fail).

What is normal, is the fact that you WILL get dropped amidst a game, you WILL have account details incorrect for no good reason, you WILL have frozen games without your PC failing or anything. Rest of the time is mostly fun tho (actually having to relog everytime after a game is pretty absurd as well heh).
Ofcourse all these have been reported since months(years more likely). Good thing the TW series is very addictive, but not even a great game will keep people around if the situation experienced by almost all those in MP yesterday becomes the norm https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/ceasarno.gif

The log in problem recently has been very annoying..for some of my clanmembers it took 30-45 minutes to log in when we had too play a tour fight..2 players missed it because deadline..
I think CA must demand Gamespy to get this right before ROME...Many MP-Gamers loose their patience with this..m2.

When u login it says on a banner..POWERED BY GAMESPY https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-zzz.gif

It takes me three attempts to log in sucessfully. Three attempts. EVERY TIME. Weird or what? I know they say "third time's lucky" and such like but this is just odd. Always has.

Hello,

Perhaps it's a routing problem? It can make a difference whether people from Scandinavia or South Europe try to log on.

A centralized server/meeting point is nice. But it should be possible to run your own matchmaker. These show up as extra rooms in the central server, but can also be reached by advertising on fan forums and handing out IP adresses. Quite a few games do that.

I've also had increased difficulty logging into the MTW/VI server over the past 2 weeks. I guess we have to post to Activision customer support and hope they have someone look into it. Unfortunately, MTW and RTW are just two games in a continuous stream of new games that publishers like Activision handle. Steve Miller wrote a song called "Take the Money and Run". This industry seems to be oriented toward maximizing intitial sales of a new product then move on to the next new product and do the same. I can't imagine anyone at Activision really caring whether MTW/VI, which is over a year old now and being discounted at retailers, is working or not other than to meet contractual obligations with CA, and the "just barely working" which we have now probably meets those obligations.

Question: I am having problems using Gamespy Arcade.

Answer: Due to the number of problems with using Gamespy Arcade and the expansion pack, Gamespy Arcade is not be supported.

Left this message anyway.

The MTW/VI multiplayer server at GameSpy has been having some severe problems the last two weeks. The result has been extremely long delays in logging on (for everyone), and repeated false logon errors (as they clear eventually with repeated tries).

The last time this sort of thing happened I contacted GameSpy. They said it was the clients responsibility, but the problem was fixed before I ever got any further in finding out who to contact next.

I hope I am in the right place to bring this problem to the attention of someone who can actually do something about it. If not, can you please direct me to who I need to contact?

Thanks in advance

They think you meant the GS arcade which you start up on your desktop... Maybe or more specific question about the condition in which it occurs?

It's pretty clear from Tomi's info that Activision's position is that GameSpy Arcade doesn't work very well with the mtw/vi expansion pack and therefore is not supported, and if you play the game by coming in through the game itself, it's the client's (Creative Assembly's) responsibility to make it work. However, Creative Assembly has terminated further development of mtw/vi, so that's it. No one from either Activision or Creative Assembly is going to try to correct multiplayer problems. I don't see RTW multiplayer being handled any differently than MTW.

Gamespy is really upsetting. If someone can find an address there for us to email, we might at least get some action.

Then again maybe gamespy will still be full of woe https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wall.gif

Was just able to log on in less that 20 seconds, twice in a row.

Are we fixed, or is this a fluke?

If you are getting that quick "account details incorrect" error, look for a file named gstats.dat in your main game folder. That file can cause that error, and on my system the file is created when I get disconnected from GameSpy after hosting a battle which happens quite often. The game apparently doesn't need that file, and you can safely delete it to clear the problem.

OK so we all have trouble with GS, but we have had a solution for awhile and that is, http://mtw-proxy.cloudnine.net.nz. Load it and message each other your ip's and off we go. This proxy has been around for sometime and no one ever picked up on it. Try it out.
