No, unless the category includes early bands like Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, who are sometimes given this label.

Errr...since you are fron Norway...You are not talking about Norwegian Black/Death Metal are you? https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I used to lsiten to Heavy Metal when i was a teenager , it was then when i started wearing black only and this remained with me ever since. The band i liked the most is Paradise Lost but some years ago they became this electro-pop monstrocity (like many metal bands at that time they decided to immitate Britney and go mainstream). Stratovarius was also cool , Maiden was a must , Metallica was cool too ( back then they were a band whose fame was spread by pirated cassetes and they were playing real metal , nothing like the short-haired greedy little pop singers they became later ). I stoped being a fan due to the commercialisation of metal but i ll listen to something nice if it falls in my hands , the sad thing is that most 'metal' bands today play this poppish sound i hate. https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/ceasarno.gif

Not as much as before. I was never a consumer, and only listened to certain choice bands, but now it's even more limited. Only a few bands still remain that I listen to occasionally. And one of those is old Paradise Lost actually.

I like a variety of metal but don't listen to it as much probably due to me being broke and can't afford new cds at the moment rather than not liking it anymore https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

True metalhead here. Since I´m 16 I´m listening to anything that´s hard and fast. Actually, last week was the first time ever I bought a top ten charts CD (Once from Nightwish). Most bands I listen to are quite unknown by most people.
But lately, I broadened my field and listen now more to Gothic/Dark Wave/Electro stuff.

In small doses I can really apreciate it, but I tend to favor slower, more melodious rock. For my nightlife needs, well I am a technofreak, but I would never listen to it at home. Jazz/classic all the way https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

When I was younger I would listen to Metal bands, but now I am very protective of my hearing.

@mfberg, just listen to metal quietly, like pearl jam or metallica (who i don't like) what is metal these day anyway, the label changes too much https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif

If it's meant to have lyrics and I can't tell what they are, then it isn't music, AFAIC

Have you ever listened to Nightwish TK? Tarja´s voice should make it easy to focus on what she sings.

I like some metal. I'm more of an alternative rock guy but, metal is okay as long as it's in moderation.

I love metal. Particularly Slayer, 80s Metallica, Arch Enemy, Lamb of God, Dimmu Borgir, Deicide, Hatebreed(though actually a hardcore band, they have enough metal influences to be in this year's Ozzfest), and probably some others that I've forgotten. Some other bands that I'm only a little familiar with, but am liking what I've heard so far, include Sepultura, Opeth, Atreyu, and Emperor.
Slayer is good because out of all the major thrash metal acts of the 80s, they haven't gone downhill.
Metallica should never be compared to Brittany Spears. Sure, they are washed up and their music isn't nearly as good as it used to be, but even their worst stuff beats teenybopper pop music anyday.
Oh, and by the way, this is the first post I've made since I've come back from a 2-week vacation in California.

TK - you honestly can't understand maiden songs and other metal bands? WTF? Not as if it is rap, which is hard to pick up. I can pretty much know al lthe words after a few hearings https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

A.Saturnus

Well, maiden is easy to understand but others like Obituary are incomprehensible. But that has to be so for Death Metal https://forums.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Death / thrash metal is different, I do not like that too much. I stick to heavy metal not that thrash stuff, I don't liek the screaming :| The music is great but.. The screaming.. ~:dizzy:

Yep, same here. Early Metallica is about as heavy as I go.

Jag, I always thought it was death (and black) metal that's got the screaming... thrash metal is more like Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Exodus, Testament, Megadeth, Nuclear Assault, Stormtroopers of Death, etc. It's a sort of fusion between Hardcore Punk and Heavy metal, so mighty but quick moster riffs.

Thrash metal rules, death metal sucks .... (IMO)

I like other metal as well as thrash though, like Black Sabbath, Yngwie Malmsteen, Pantera, Motorhead, some Twisted Sister and Motley Crew, Manowar are pretty good musicians but their lyrics are hilariously cheesy... I like lots more as well, but can't remember at the moment...

Well we all have our own groupings etc, but I class death metal and thrash metal as the same. I listen to Pantera, anthrax, megadeth etc and I really wouldnt class them as thrash metal. A band everyone should go and get stuff on is Blind guardian, bloody good band.
