Player operated servers is what you want. The game is perfectly suited for that since it's peer-to-peer when it lanches into battle mode. So, the server isn't doing any work when you are in 3D battle mode. You don't need an extremely fast connection or powerful machine to be a server for this game.

Not likely. 1.02 is perhaps the last official patch, because there is a new game in town called MTW.

There will be no more patches or stats for Shogun. It's a dead game. The developer is not interested in multiplayer for Shogun or MTW for that matter. It has a rudementary multiplayer so they can claim multiplayer capability and sell a few more copies to that market segment.
