OK I've had it with weird crusades today. I've just seen a French crusade pass unhindered through a province (Khazar) owned by the Golden Horde. Shouldn't the crusaders be putting the heretical pagans to the sword on the way to their objective like they do to Muslims? No The Mongols have prepared a little party for them, handing drinks to the crusaders as they pass by.

Well the Crusading orders were very flexible with their morals and tended to only be in it for what they could get out of their crusades. Crusaders claimed that Byzantium had fellow Christians at one time and yet they sacked the city on a different occasion.
Many in Christendom actually hoped that a Catholic (or at least Christian) Golden Horde faction would emerge at some point and help drive the Mamuluk sultans of Egypt from the holy land. There were Christian princesses in the Mongol court and there was hope amongst rulers that the legendary Christian king, Prester John, would emerge from the East to save the West.
As for the Mongols, they only tended to fight if conditions were on their terms, if they weren't they'd avoid engagement or at least a major battle. By letting your Crusade pass they're just avoiding confrontation.
Or maybe its just something the programmers overlooked.

Hello,
In MTW terms, the most likely possibility is that the population of that province (whoever the owner) was >50% Catholic.
