Welcome,

It's not much, but here's a forum at least.

The hot had to take the server down as it was causing a lot of crashes. I don't have time to make it more fancy here, sorry.

This forum is running on my homeserver. It may be slow.

The normal forum may be running again within 48 hours.

So we´re at your place Tosa? That means in the Netherlands, right?
Special offer: pot smoking allowed today at the Tavern
That should also make the current avatars more interesting...

Will everything be as it was when the site is restored. For instance will all the topics and posts that were under discussion still be in existence.Hey.....just realised i'm back to Junior Patron again and the number of posts i entered is significantly reduced.
Don't tell me you poor guys have to rebuild it from scratch. http://212.238.194.39/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Many thanks TosaInu-Sama for hosting the site temporarily. Will the old topics be revived or have they been permanently deleted?

Edit: Just noticed I got brought down by about 200 posts....ah well

You can't say the org has been boring these last few weeks :tongueg:

TosaInu

http://aopen/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif certainly not boring. It's sad that these disasters strike while I'am sleeping and need to leave the next morning. The forums are down for hours, without me knowing.

I guess that the database is still intact.. yes it's still there.
With some luck a copy will be converted and merged with other databases for the new forum before the old forum is back. But theory and practice are two different things.

1.
-we'll be here for a day or two and then return to the old forum. The new one will be ready later.

2.
-we'll be here for a day or two and then the new forum is up and running.

This is quickly setup from a week old prunned backup, so some postcounts will look funny. It should be possible to bring the current database here.

Thank you very much Tosa Inu Sama. *bows*

My preference would be for #2, if there were any, since our old forum has already caused much more than enough trouble.

Just to feed my own curiosity: how does the the forum perform on this server? Turtle slow, acceptable or fast?

ah_dut
07-28-2004, 17:26
acceptable tosa sama nearly the same speed as the old one

Spartiate
07-28-2004, 17:29
Just as fast as normal although i feel that less people are here at the same time.
Probably a good thing for the time being.
Excellent work(tips hat) http://212.238.194.39/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Hello Everyone http://212.238.194.39/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Well that was a good time for me to stop by, I guess. http://212.238.194.39/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Hope everything is back to normal and thanks for your work, as always TosaInu San. :bows:

Well long time no see, so hope everyone's doing all right and you all are enjoying your gaming passion. I'm not much into playing at the moment. Travelling some and reading a lot, working a lot. Life's great though and of course I always remember my friends at the org, regardless of what life brings. http://212.238.194.39/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

BTW (to the best of my knowledge) sama in Japanese is used for things such as the Gods..i.e when you worship the Gods or you talk about/to them you say sama. San is used for human beings as politesse. Not sure if earlier posts intended sama or san, but I just wanted to say this in case people were confusing the two.

Good luck and God Speed All

HOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAHHHH

TosaInu
07-28-2004, 18:11
Sama, san and chan are all used as a polite form.

-Chan is used for (little) kids. So, saying Sinan chan is actually an insult.
-San is used for equals.
-Sama is used for higher in 'rank', whatever it is. Man would indeed say sama to deities, but also to a sensei, or local king.

I shouldn't be called sama, I'm not that special.

Great to hear you're enjoying life Sinan san.

Ikonboard has a default swearfilter. A hot place an some other words are listed listed.

I've just finished the last real life bits for today, I'm going to see if the database can be obtained.

Sjakihata
07-28-2004, 18:41
actually sama is quite informal way to greet a superior, normally, at least in sengoku jidai you would use -domo.

two points:

What I like better about his forum

1, the quick post thing, love it

2, the way you access threads, you can click on the entier 'box' not only the text

frogbeastegg
07-28-2004, 19:19
Speed is good, about the same as the old forum.

Automoderate? Heaven forbid - just think of the job losses Though I will admit that modding the arena is really easy right now :winkg:

A swear filter? Hmmm.... :swears and previews post: Either it doesn't work on previews or it's a wee bit lax.

From my incredibly limited Japanese (learned from Clavell's Shogun) sama is used for superiors or people you want to honour, san is used for equals.

Don't be so modest. With the work you do with the Org, to call you TosaInu-sama is the least one can do to give you credit. http://212.238.194.39/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

thank you for enlightening me tosa inu-domo http://212.238.194.39/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif a swear word filter, excellant, could we keep that for the frontr room and tavern when we get back to normal? and this quick post thing, very good, nice to see you back sinan master of the horse archers http://212.238.194.39/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

TosaInu
07-28-2004, 23:41
Hello ah_dut,

The swear filter is not my invention. It's a global setting in this board. Not sure how it's done in the new board, there are quite a few options there. It's doing things more local than this one. For example polls allowed in forum a but not b.

The quick post is something that's part of the new forum as well. The new forum is not Ikonboard and feels quite different.
Nice options and undoubtly also less nice ones. But overall pretty good.

Do we get to keep our old smilies, Tosa?

TosaInu
07-29-2004, 00:06
Yes. And have to remember to keep a copy in the old location, or all old posts will be stripped.

It should be possible to keep the avatars too and they'll be there. But you'll likely lose them during conversion. I ran a test last week and all were gone.

I have been thinking the same thing. It was very fast on the first day but now things are slowing down to normal speed.

Anyway, thank you very much for making this possible, Tosa. But when will we go back to our old (or new) forum?
