View Full Version : Generals dying of old age in MTW..

I've been nagging people on the official forums for an answer but with no luck, can anyone here help me?

Does anyone know what the command line parameter is that makes generals dissapear from the game when they die of old age rather than simply changing their name?

I mean, what would one need to type after the location of the executable in the Target line of the properties dialogue box for an MTW shortcut? (like when you add -ian for debug mode or whatever)

It's something to do with green generals if that jogs anybody's memory. http://212.238.194.39/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I think typing that in like this .greengenerals. is it not to sure could be wrong though.

Ah yes You just type that in on the campaign map I guess? I'll try it out.

Brilliant I love you

OK it doesn't work http://212.238.194.39/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

I typed in .greengenerals. on the campaign map, as well as some variations of that. Then watched the Danish royal family develop 100 years or so - but no, generals were still hanging around under a different name when they were dying.

Does anyone else have any information?

Did the command stars change at all after there death? I've never used this option and have no idea if they all go to a zero star or if they take on a new rank

Right click your desktop MTW/VI icon

select properties

select the shortcut tab {should be on that by default anyhow}

the word target should have a highlighted line of text to the right of it in a text window that says
C:\Program Files\Total War\Medieval - Total War\Medieval_TW.EXE -strictserver
Click on it until it isn't highlighted then use the arrow key to move the type-stuff-here flashing cursor thingy to the end of that text and delete the -strictserver portion of the text and replace it with -green_generals so it looks like this
C:\Program Files\Total War\Medieval - Total War\Medieval_TW.EXE -green_generals

Now click appily and OK and your generals will die and the replacement have one less star of command and one less level of each vice and virtue each succession when you start the game from that icon .

For extra interest , you might add -ian to access debugging mode where you can change faction {each faction is a number from the top of your keyboard or Shift+number eg: the Byzantines are 3 , the Pope is Shift9 and Mongols Shift5 or Shift6 , can't remember for sure} and loads of other fun stuff . Play as the rebels {their number is 1} or the emerging Horde or a respwaning faction ... very useful for moding .

Ah ha I've got it - well, at least someone on the official forum thinks they know it, I'll try it tomorrow:

You have to add -green_generals to the end of the target of the MTW shortcut. So, it should read

C:\ Program Files\Total War\Medieval - Total War\Medieval_TW.exe –green_generals

I'm not sure what happens to the unit after the general dies yet.. I'll try it tomorrow sometime. I think, maybe, that either the whole unit dissapears, like what happens to the King when he dies, or the unit survives but minus one man, leaving a new zero star general..? Well I'll report back..
