Playing as the French, dominating the map and positioning for total conquest once the Golden Horde is taken care of. My problem now is time. The Golden Horde throws these massive armies at me which are easily beaten by soooo time consuming. A good general + fairly high valor/weapon/armor upgrade Chivalric Knights, Arbalesters, and Haleberders (as a screen for the arbalesters) and the Golden Horde is easily beaten.
The general dies early, but the problem is the time it takes to beat back wave after wave after wave of horse archers. They come close, get smacked hard by the knights, start to run away, then stop running and come back to harass.
These battles can take hours and they are anticlimatic. The biggest challenge is in finding a way to box in as many horse archers as possible and destroy them from all sides so they don't have the time to run away.
Anybody have any advice on how make the entire army flee the field quickly after their general is dead?

Easiest way is to post a couple of mounted units at the point where they emerge on the map, cheap I know but in these circumstances it's ok IMO.

To get flee the field
All enemy units on the field must be running away.
It may require a certain % of units running as well when considering reserves ie 50% of all units left or something like that... not sure on that one.

Thanks I am finding out it is best to use pure CK units against the Golden Horde when they mass like this. Attack the attackers, and (as mablung says) just post them where the new units spawn. An hour of that isn't so bad because I end up killing about 2000 of the enemy in a single battle. I just hate that run up, attack, run away, then halfway down the field, run back, attack again, runaway again repeat cycle.

I think thats right, unfortunately. I don't mind long battles at all but when all you are doing is chasing around units that are stuck between running away and marching quickly...it gets trying. Too bad theres no way to delegate this clean up of a victorious battle to your general and just autocalc the results.

Put your arbalesters with some flanking cav (or in your case maybe halbs) at their reinforcement point. Even better, use just cheap archers and save money, mongol HA are unarmored. Make sure your archers have their max range just at the edge of the map; the reinforcements will get shot up as they march into battle (esp. horses, they're bigger targets). As they get in, they will predictably charge the archers, and when they do your flankers go in and sandwich them.

Good tactic, I'll use it. I am stuck on a turn in which I get attacked in three seperate provinces...stuck because the power keeps going out at the end of the last battle (#### light company). The reason I've been using the arbs is because they outrange the horse-archers and stand up a little better when attacked. Pavise arbs seem to work the best.
I've been able to recude the time in these otherwise looong battles by alot. I am considering even just using cav. It seems to be a game of pushing the first wave all the way back, then meeting all the new comers as they come out. But I do like to get as many kills as possible so I'll give your tactic a shot.
