View Full Version : Good suggestion for better build queues

I thought of a nice improvment in the build queues that I hope makes it into RTW (or its patch). I have to illustrrate with an example:
You have a province with Fort only and want to add shipwright which requires a Port and Keep. In MTW you can queue the port and the Keep, but you cannot queue the shipwright because you are still at Fort level. However, the interface should allow you to queue the Port and Keep and then shipwright AFTER them, because when the Keep is done you will be able to build the shipwright. This saves you from remembering to order that shipwright when the keep is done.

THe way I would implement it is to have an additional panel in the build view where potentially available structures appear every time you add another building to the queue (e.g when you queue 20% farm, the option to queue 40% farm after it should appear. THis way you can queue up 20%, 40% and 60% farms in a single order).

Has this been proposed (loudly enough) to CA?

I think they should have something like Call To Power where you can create set queues you could easily designate various prov's as economic, strategic agents, archers etc etc ya get the idea it's such a pain going through province build queues especially when your quite large that maybe that should be fixed my guess is it has being though.

I like the idea. It should also be valid for troops.

there was something like that in shogun, as soon as a pre-req building had been started, the next level of building was available

Phh, it very much depends .. it would do no harm, but it is more or less futile.

Untill the initial construction is finished, you may need the money for something else. Your decisions are, at least in the first 2/3 of the game, very much dictated by others actions. So you woud end up with a lot of "Not enough funds"

Nowake, you're right. But then again, I get that "Out of funds" during the first twenty-odd years anyway.
However it would definitely be useful throughout the rest of the game, esp. the middle when-I'm-teching-up-like-crazy-and-specializing-my-provinces stage; it would definitely help me not have to write down what provinces I'm teching up for what specific purpose. That way, I only need to make that decision once, when I'm done with the initial expanding phase, and forget about it for the rest of the game.
Sure, use of some provinces is obvious (+ valour provinces), but not all are; and sure, some people don't like to go through that stage anyway.

I'm just saying that it would be useful; not crucial, but definitely useful; and it can't hurt having it ;)

What I'd like is a build queue like Civilization's. Once a building is finished, the game prompts you what you want to construct next on the same window that says the building is finished. In MTW, the game tells you the building is finished at the start of the turn but you can't construct buildings until after all the messages have been displayed. It's very hard to remember which province had buildings completed so I just scroll through all of them.

i write them down.
but you have a good point. It would be nice to be able to decide if you want to build a new building at the complete construction messege.
This should work for governors/generals as well. when the new V&V come in, you should be able to add/take away power.
