Last night there was a show on BBC2, called battlefield britain. Is this a new show or has it been broadcasted before? It covers some important battles on the british isles (from the roman period till modern time). Yesterday was the first of the series and was about the fight between Boudicca and the romans. I have only seen the first 20 minutes of it, so I think I missed the most interesting part of it. Has anyone else seen it and is it worth watching?

It is a new series. I fell asleep during it, so it can't have been that good! (Mind you, at my age falling asleep in front of the telly isn't that rare).

I think it is too long (1 hour) and too superficial - a Iceni woman saying "I saw things that day I never want to see again" - not exactly a new way of looking at things. Maybe if it had been about a battle or campaign I wasn't familar with already, I would have been more engaged. Having spent the first two years of my secondary education at school in Thetford, I seem to remmber Boudica being almost the only history we did, so I had heard most of it before (unless they did something really different and interesting in the 20 minutes I missed).

Next week it is the Battle of Hastings, so I think I will give it a miss, but if they talk about battles I don't know much about, I may revisit it.

Anyone expecting something with the same quality as Richard Holmes' War Walks is going to be disappointed.

Perhaps in theory a good idea but I think they picked the wrong place to feature, France had many more major battles (at least between "established" civilizations) and would have offered much more for a longer series.
