OK, I was wandering, are there any construction workers, engineers, architects, basically anyone who works in construction, but working on family houses and smaller buildings up to five stores, or hospitals, banks et cetera? Among the vast population of the Org members I hoped to find some that share my line of work and exchange experience on how things are handled in countries where they work!
So, if you are in construction business, post away, and tell me all about where you work, on what sorts of projects, what is your expertise, what sort of literature are you using and so on! I’m looking forward to see if there are any members here that do that line of work aside of me! ~;)

I'm not in the construction trades (my son is a drywaller), but I do a fair amount of 'home improvement' projects - which is to say: I often do a project twice; once, the 'wrong' way, then secondly, better.
I have poured concrete, built a wooden shed, laid sod, built a deck, patched holes in walls (teenagers, heh), and those kinds of home-dweller type projects. I am a rotten plumber. Power tools and I have a 'mutual-exclusion' clause in our relationship (I'm much better going slowly, with hand-tools).
In sum: I'm not much help to you, I think - but surely sympathetic. :)
I've been in the business for 25 years. I started as a carpenter in NYC, moved into management about 10 years ago and today plan maintenance and run projects at the state U of New Jersey.
At home I do (or avoid doing) most of the crap, except for big projects like my add a level where I was the GC and only did the trim.
My favorite tool is a gas powered finish nailer. A small battery sparks the gas from a small cannister and drives home the nail. No compressor, no hoses just bliss, a rather loud bliss, but still just so sweet.

Great! Well, as soon as I get back (I’m off for a small trip to some construction sites), I’ll get back to this and we guys engage in some serious handyman arguments! ~;) Could take some three days though... ~ ~
