Can you kill a tashio with a missile unit?

This is a difficult question. It was asked at the Total-War-Shogun site and now I bring it to you for more attention.

Can you kill a tashio with a missile unit?

I think yes but to me it never happened....
and I play a lot single and multi......

Any ideas?

I'm not really sure you can prove it, other than by doing a custom battle with the enemy being only ranged units http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

I've often suspected that it DOES happen though, as occasionally I'll get my Taisho killed immediately after deploying in battle http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

yes but the likly hood of it happening is rare to say the least with over 900 games i have only done it 2-3 times and i have never killed him in a custom battle only in the online games

A Taisho definitely can be killed by a ranged unit. But it is very rare and you would be very unfortunate for your Taisho to be killed by a stray bullet http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I often target the enemy Taisho if he is within range, to lower his morale and weaken his unit, thereby making it easier to kill/rout him later on.

I remember accidently killing a taisho with arrows before, I think it normally happens on a few factors how close the general is to the shooters, what type of general is he, who else is around the general, the height at which the shooters are, and the honour of the shooter!

I almost always target the enemy Taisho with my missile units, especially if I've already met the enemy in melee combat along that front -- after all, why risk friendly fire if there's a jucier target standing just off to the side? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

I've never killed an enemy Taisho like this, but I can often get him to rout... especially if I can cut down his ranks a bit, then bum-rush him with my Yari Cav. A routing Taisho almost always leads to a routing army... even more fodder for my horses! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

It is even funny cause in 2v2 where my allie fights his enemy and me my enemy i get " your men have killed the enemy general" while my men are fighting the other guy and my gunmen and archers are shoting far away from there.

the real question now is: can you kill a Daimyo with a ranged unit? I doubt it.

this only appllies to the single player game, of course.

Can you kill a daimyo with a ranged unit, considering it takes the entire force of a 60 man unit to kill him alone? And does anyone know what the daimyo's stats are, if he has any? Is his hatamoto just HC, or are they souped up too? So many questions!

YES. The enemy general dies from both gunmne and archers.

I don't know about killing a Daimyo with ranged weapons. I seem to remember that I did it once, but I could be wrong. I never played with muskets much on campaign (due to having to fight in seasons other than Summer http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif ), but I presume it can be done with high-enough honour archers.

or Teppo-ashigaru.

I don't think it is possible to kill an enemy Daimyo with arrows.I routed the Imagawa
Daimyo's entire army once leaving only the Daimyo on the field.I manuvered him into a corner of the battlefield and brought up 2 units of archers and one cav archer and rained arrows on him.I killed every one of his body guard and he stood there receiving volley after volley of arrows till my archers ran out.I had to kill him with some yari units,even then he must have taken about 20-25 yari's with him!Them Daimyos sure have good armor! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

teppo-ahigaru.
