Shogun TW WE freeze

My apologies if this is posted elsewhere but I couldn't find it if it is.

When exiting STWWE, the pc freezes and I have to do a reboot to get it back.

Second question: When patching these games does it make the save games unplayable. Or perhaps there's a way to copy the save game folder and then recopy after patching?

Copying the savedGames folder, then patching, then adding the copied folder contents works; I've done it.

The freeze on exit, I am unsure about. Sounds like a vidCard driver issue.

folks there report several possible solutions to "lockup on exit". The thing to remember, is that the game has to try to reset your computer back to the way it was before you started playing (that session). So it looks for screensavers it disabled, for example...and tries to reset your screen resolution and color scheme back to what you had, before it shrunk you down to 800x600 for gameplay. If it (WE or Windows) has trouble finding/readjusting those settings, it can/will "hang".
