I could understand why Varangian Guards are confined only to the Early and High periods(even though they were recorded in existance as late as 1404), but why do Byzantine Lancers disappear in the Late Period? For me, this troop type, along with Byzantine Cavalry, represent the average type of provincial/thematic horse unit - pre and post Manzikert. How would I go about making BLs available in all periods - I know nothing about modding? Your reply(ies) would be most appreciated.

If you have the gnome editor it is extreamly easy, if not it is also quite easy, all you have to do is open up the file, find Byzantine Lancers (they will be near the bottom) and move across untill you see "EARLY, HIGH" all you have to do is edit this to "EARLY, HIGH, LATE" i hope it works ~:)

Thanks for replying. Do I use the VIKINGS_UNIT_PROD or CRUSADERS_UNIT_PROD11 file? If I were to change the Byzantine Lancer period availabilty to EARLY, HIGH, LATE or ALL_PERIODS in one file would I have to do this in the other?

do this in the crusader file. this is early high late periods.

the viking file is for the viking period.

setting it to all_periods is best. using "early, high, late" is kinda long and gives opportunities for typos or what not.
