I've had some trouble winning as the Scots in Viking and was considering using some cheat codes, but than it struck me, does everybody else use cheat codes at harder levels or do they slug it out man to man? Just wondering.

Also, anybody got any good stories about using cheat codes for MTW or STW!!!!!

Don't bother it actually ruins the game very quickly and gets boring so you end up not finishing the campaign at all. If your having troble all the info you will ever need is right here on the org just have a look see there is a wealth of info posted by very experienced players.

By the way try these threads for size

Once you get the hang of the game you wish you could give the enemy cheats like:

.SmartAI.
.LikeFlankDude.
.NoMoreGeneralsLeadingFrontalAssaults.
.EnemyBuildingsOnlyDegradeWhenHumanTakesOver.
.NoMorePeasants.
.StopRunning.
.CrusadeAgainstNonCatholics.
.MultiplayerCampaign.
.StopSittingInDenmarkAndInvadeSweden.
.MakeAFleetAndGetSomeGold. combined with
.DoNotAttackAMassiveEnemyJustBecauseYourFleetIsLarger.
.AllianceCombinedAttacks.
.RandomHeroForAI.

I actually learned how the game works by using the money cheat.

That was before I came here and learned the fine points ~;)

If you play the game and analyze your situation, you can learn a lot from 1 or 2 games...instead of 20.
That said, there is sooo much information here you can probably do a few searches, read some threads and learn most of what you need to know; almost w/o needing to play the game ~:p

Frostbeastegg's guide is excellent, Katatank has excellent advice on rushing/killing them all, there used to be a few great threads (with replays) on HorseArcher/Javelin use...etc.

Enjoy ~:)
and Welcome to the .org ~

Oh, I have been playing since STW WE. edition, I know the codes and strategies very well for almost every faction, I just wanted to know what others thought about using the cheat codes.

Hi Kagetora,
I'm with Papewaio, I only cheat to balance the game. Sometimes I invade rebel provinces build them up with .worksundays. and then abandon them to the enemy. However this can get you into allsorts of problems when your trusted allies can't resist invading this new juicy province and then all your alliances suddenly fall to pieces due to your kings poor influence.
But rescently I've introduced new income creating buildings, boosted farm revinues and modded the startpos so the AI produces some challenging opponents. Even if they sometimes commit tactical suicide. Maybe one day i'll get into MP and really challenge myself. Cheat codes are fine when your playtesting balancing etc but the game definatley gets boring if you always use them to win. Although it would be nice just to add a thousand florins now and again. But there are ways of doing that if you wanted to.

Open the VI or MTW shortcut, and find the command prompt, add -ian to the end of it. Start the game and you can even change nations or something. I think it sucked a lot.

Only after I played the game through hardest possible way, expert turks early, only after that I've experimented stuff with cheats, created my own scenarios mostly, it's fun toying around, increases the time you wish to play it.
Without them I would've ended playing after that hardest game.,

I just slug it out.

I think it's more fun to learn things the hard way.

I think I kind of look down on people who only use cheats to play games. I understand the fun in cheating sometimes just to play around cause that's really what we're here for - to have fun. But the thing is that I"ve talked to a number of casual gamers that say "Yeah man, I love this game, it's so cool when you use the cheats and you totally wreck the other side, haha they have no chance when I play them because I'm so good." I'd rather play the game how it was meant to be played for the majority of the time. For the Total War series I haven't yet used a cheat and dont' think I will any time soon. I used to cheat in Starcraft back in the day before I figured out how to really play well and then i twas just stupid to think of using cheats because it would've been too easy and things that are too easy get dull after a while.

you're absolutely right, Pape, but I must point out that you forgot 2 important ones:

1. .NoMorePeasants.
2. .NoMorePeasants.

The only time that I use a cheat code is when I'm playing a glorious achievement campain in expert mode, the only one I use is .worksundays. :knight:

I used to play with cheats alot but then when they go boring and i decided to play normaly i found it really hard because it took so long to build up my provinces and i always ran out of money, my advice is to learn to play first and THEN use cheat codes for a bit of fun.

@Papewaio what do those cheats do??? ~:dizzy:

Nothing... yet... I just wish they where available to spice up the AI and make it a bit more durable.

.conan. is not what I would call a cheat... unless half the world is rebels like at the start of an early game.

I don't use them unless i am checking out a mod and i want to see what certain upgrades get me(worksundays).
I am unfamiliar with one cheat i saw on these forums once(think it was Katank who posted it).It was .unfreeze.I typed it in on the main screen and got the music that represents a marriage proposal. What does this cheat do?

yep. only cheats I consider ok is the .unfreeze. so you don't lose a good campaign for no reason and using -ian to give yourself a challenge.

I found that it's virtually impossible to beat a faction I played through all of Early though due to getting everyone of my fellas bribed.

I think perhaps playing a faction for 40-50 years and then switching might be interesting.

strats are everywhere on the org in terms of guides including my blitz the world for ever faction.

There isn't quite any challenge in using the cheat codes for me- it would ruin the game! I like to slug it out it man to man, as you say, and take my victories and defeats for how they are.

Someday I would like to reconfigure one of the cav units to max stats, and see how many peasants they could take on.
