Did you guys watch the US vs Puerto Rico game this afternoon?
It hurts me to say the US team got it's butts handed to them ~:( Well Puerto Rico deserved it, they played with alot of heart and hustle. ~:cheers:

The best line from the moive version of the Miracle on Ice team of 1980 was the coach saying "I am not looking for the best players, I am looking for the best team".
Applies to the US, may be the best individual players, but certainly not the best team.
Good game to Puerto Rico.

The players we have there arent even that though, cause if they were would be dominating but regretfully almost all the A-List players pulled out ~:(

LOL, if they hadn't, the mighy U.S. wouldn't have got their butts kicked ~D. The President of the USA should impose an appropriate decree disallowing the people of Puerto Rico have their own basketball team!

Puerto Rico is a US commonwealth. Most US commonwealth's have their own basketball (and other) teams. I believe commonwealth atheletes are also allowed to compete on US teams if their commonwealth doesn't have a team.

Good question but, if I were American I'd rather worry about the next games. Unless your team doesn't learn the lesson of the game with PR you're going to get demolished be a few European teams. I personally don't believe that will happen but then again, no one would expect the once-DreamTeam to lose agains PR.
Any insights into the disaster in American media today?

Mostly because the IOC (International Olympic Committee) decided that they were a sovereign entity, despite their relationship with the US - similar (tho' less so) to Guam & American Samoa, which also have teams.
But I will grant you: the US relationship with PR seems to change about every 5-6 years. So far, every time they have a referendum on independence, it gets voted down (by them).
To get back on-topic, Puerto Rico (and the Dominican Republic) are major sources of athletes for many US professional sports, noteably baseball, basketball, and (gasp!) soccer.

how the hell did PR beat USA ? wonder what odds the bookies would have given that....
p.s british commonwealth should all be one team the medal haul would be amazing.... (ok so they shouldn't but it would make UK look better)

All i got say is that this situation with the so called basketball team we sent over there keeps getting sadder and sadder. First Turkey than Puerto Rico, who next Nepal. This team is just one big joke.

PR was up by 22 at halftime, the US managed to pull the score within 8 but, the PR point guard Arroyo was simply awesome and, managed to pull his team through with a couple 3 pointers.

I dunno, would be good to see a commonwealth team whoop the French or the Springboks!! Do you go with Jonny Wilkinson or Carlos Spencer at 10 though! now that is a selection headache!!!
The Maryland Terrapins would have represented better.
Or, God forgive me for saying so, the Duke Blue Devils...

Our Olympic basketball team is not doing good at all. A few weeks ago in an exhibition match against Italy, they got smashed.
And we used to be the best... ~:(
