On the Rome FAQ regarding requirements it says: The minimum spec is a 1Ghz processor, plus a sensible graphics card and 256Mb of RAM. We think this is a reasonable machine these days for a game of this depth and quality.

^^What he wrote. ~D The general guidance from the developers has been: if your machine can run Medieval:TotalWar, it will also handle Rome:TotalWar.

You wont have a problem if you dont get greedy and max out all the graphics settings, they should do a good job in optimising, most pc develpers dont bother but strategy gamers generally run on slower rigs then say flightsimmers and fps gamers, CA would be shooting themselves in the foot if they didnt put in the work. The demo could be rougher than the final product, and im sure patches will follow.

Well, I have double everything there - AMD 2500+, Radeon 9800 Pro - 256MB edition and a gig of RAM and I can run the game at 800x600 with medium-low settings and small unit size. Extremely dissapointing, my FPS isn't even steady at that, hovering between smooth as glass and what looks like 10-25 during a charge.
Well, I managed to run the demo with:
800 MHz Duron
32 MB GFMX2
256 MB RAM
Of course, everything is on lowest possible setting, and the units pixelate even when the units are a short distance away. But, it worked.

Player requirements:
Must either drink lots of coffee
or
Too young to drive or vote. Or just live your parents despite being forty.
or
Have the mouse clicking speed of a cicadas song.
or
Have the desire to hit space bar every 1/24 of a second to slow down the speed to that of something clearly understandable.
or
Be prepared to do a warm-up session of clicking on DiabloII.

Well, I am running the demo on a laptop with
P4 2.5 gh
512 Ram
SIS 650 Chipset
While MTW runs like a charm (moderate settings), RTW demo is very jerky. There are a lot of lags though I have everything on min settings.
I know that laptops aren't typically very responisive to newer games, but I thought that since MTW worked and the developers stated that the requirements are approxiamately the same, it should run smoothly.
Any suggestions out there?
Perhaps I should start pricing other chipsets or just a new desktop? ~

Good call Papewaio.
A couple cow lvl runs and I'll be so prepped to handle the ultra turbo units in RTW

Desktop probably... but
I don't know much about laptops, do you have a Video card or is it an onboard deal.?

It's an internal chipset.
