Hey you guys, would you prefer Football Manager or CM5? I would say FM.

FM 2005 is the true sequal to the CM series as it is using the same engine and Data base as the preivious CM games.

CM 5 is a whole new game.

This is due to the Developers and Publishers splitting and the publishers keeping the rights for the CM Brand name, But the Developers keeping the game engine.

Im going with FM 2005, stick with what you know, thats what i say!

Yeah, me too. I usually end up playing half a season, then forgetting about it for a few weeks, then finishing it up later. The furthest I've got on any game is about 3 seasons in, I had just got Ipswich into the Cl, then my comp crashed ~ . I prefer games like PES3 tho. You're more involved that way.

Talking about PES3, Winning Eleven 8 is awesome. The moves are so much realistic than ever. They kick EA asses!

I can't wait for the PES/FM combo (it has to be done!!!)

I won't mind FM this year, I prefer playing someone from Division 3 and working up - and this season I'll be able to play as GTFC. That's the only good thing I can come up with from being relegated two seasons running.

P.S. I hope it IS called Division 3 and not this stupid League Two rubbish. How can League Two be the FOURTH national league?

I think it will be called League 2. But they won't call it Coca-Cola Football League 2.

A friend challenged me to playing CM a few years ago... I took the challenge, ... and lost :veryangry2:

I've never really got a grip on the game. Whenever I started to manage a team, I do well during the pre-season (which always gives me hopes that I'll finally do well), but then I lose the first eight competition games in a row and get sacked ~:mecry:
Even though I like the concept (don't care that it's a sports game, I'm not really into sport games generally), I think I should consider giving up the challenge now, after all those years. :laugh4:

Of course, if you guys can give me some good hints, I can still try to win this challenge (with a HUUUUGE delay, I admit, but still...).

CM03/04 is one of the best games out there. The challenge of making Man City F.C European Champions has cost me many a sleepless night.

Find your teams strength and weaknesses, if you have strong defense or midfield or offense.

Then decide if you need to reinforce the team in any way. If you do, start searching for the type of player/s you want. Use your agents to scout players you are interested in.
Important stats:
Defender: tackling, stamina, positioning, off the ball, heading
Midfield: creativity, passing, off the ball, stamina
Striker: finishing, stamina, creativity

Then decide upon a tactics, in the latest version the 4-4-2 formation is amongst the better and you do need wingers, wich you didnt need in earlier versions in which you simply could stack your players near the center line and let it be at that.

Team management: always support your players against media, or you my face morale problems in your squad. Also always try to begin games with players with at least 95% health. If you play with less your players will suffer on the long-term. Use substitutes if needed. Remember you are playing to win a league not just a single game.

Hope that helps a bit ~;)

Tricky Lady;

Apologies if you wanted something more lighter :)

*deep breath*

CM has always had a problem that if you can get a side with very high physical attributes (strength, pace, stamina, etc.) you can go on to do really well. Technical attributes are also important, and then Mental, but always make sure the Physical side of the players are in the teens or more.

If you're a top flight side, look closely at the foreign market - there are often some good deals there, players valued at a couple million with some really high stats. Look especially in the "lower valued" divisions; Portugal, Luxembourg, Balkan leagues, Scandinavia...but try to make sure they can speak the same language as everyone else. If you find someone and they can't, buy a second player from their nation so they have someone to talk to (Man City did this a few years ago with Sun Jihai and another, less quality Chinese player who didn't make the grade - someone I should remember his name but can't!) Also look for teams that have just gone down, or are doing poorly in the league below. Often you can pick-up a good bargain from these clubs by offering them 3/4 of a players value.

If you're lower division, in every CM version so far there have been a number of players that are underrated by everyone, but have stats to dream of. CM4 has a player called Orri Freyr Oskarsson, about 19 in pace, acceleration, shooting, strength... just about all you need in a striker.

For tactics, make sure they aren't too extravagent. Keep to the default 4-4-2 at first. You might want to just make sure everyone is taking the right free-kicks, penalties, and most importantly, captain. He should have good Work Rate, Determination, Influence and Teamwork. Decisions can help too.

For coaching staff. Look for "Unproven" coaches. Make sure you get a good goalkeeping coach, then atleast one coach who is "fitness based". Your assistant manager should have good motivation and determination. No need to alter the default training regime, but if you notice your players losing fitness take out a few sessions of Cross Country, 5-A-Side Games and other intense sessions. Try to keep the coaches speaking the same language as everyone else too.

Well, what I do is this...
Like I said above, I take on lower league sides and go up. The first thing I do is get ride of 30+ year olds, anyway I can. Then I discard the trash players, and usually so much that I have an entirely new squad by the end of the season. Don't worry about giving players time to get used to each other, it doesn't seem to matter that much. I then swap my caoches and assistant manager. There are ALWAYS great "unproven" coaches and assistants. As each new coach signs, get rid of an old one. No need to change your physio, ever, since most are 20 in physiotherapy anyway.

Did this with Boston and carried them to 1st in Div3, 1st in Div2, 5th in Div1 (lost playoff), 1st in Div1 and then 3rd in Prem. I always have a squad of about 50-60 players, including a full 20 first team, about 10 reserves (which are just out of the youth or on the transfer market) and about 20 or so Under-19s. Wages isn't a problem because the winning of a division covers them easily for a season. The only problem with this is that I'm now topping the prem seasonly, but the board won't allow me to expand beyond a 20000 seater stadium.

You might want to pick some really good bargain players.
Braathen from Skeid is excellent on the flank or up front. His dribbles past any opponent and scores from close range. YOu can get him for around 100k-300k. But you have to be quick though.

Just look for players who dribble with a big stride (you can tell this easily from Braathen). If you just can't find a good tactic, you try to use the bugged tactic Diablo. The central midfielder runs forward and always break to one on one situations.

Programs to enhance your gameplay:
CM Scout - an exellent program to scout for young potentials etc. Discover hidden stats. http://www.nygreen.net
MCM0304 - a memory editor. Can edit your players' stats in game. can always add cash. http://www.mindcompression.com

Hey, thanks for the hints, hotingzilla, Ithaskar Fëarindel and Lucius Lucullus.

So now it's time to take the CM4 box from my dusty shelf and reinstall the game.
Heh heh, I'll try to stick to your advise as close as possible. Hopefully I can get some good results with whichever team.

Cheers!

I used to play the CM games a lot both CM2 and CM3 before finally stopping at the 99/00. I found each new season more difficult than the last and a whole load of new factors had to be tackled; it was almost like being a newbie as my team was getting thrashed game after game. My crowning moment was 99/00 when I got Toulouse to the Champions League final only to lose to Arsenal in the dying moments (I had a player sent off too ~ .)
