Does anyone know if the heirs appear as they actually did in the past, ie. are they historically accurate? Also, The Imagawa Clan gets its first heir after about 3 or 4 years, so that 11 year old was a busy kid... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Daimyos' and heirs' names, ages and honour levels are historically accurate. They are not random. You'll see the same names, ages and starting honour levels in every campaign you play.
As for generals I'm not sure.
Heirs are not just sons of the current Daimyo, the Daimyo's brothers and nephews are also qualify as heirs of the throne. There are also adopted heirs (as I remember, Date members become heirs of Mori clan later).
Shimazu usually has the most heirs.
If I remember correctly, the Date generals appear in the game as heirs of the Uesugi clan. In real history Date was another clan, and their power base was on the north side of Japan (like the Uesugi). Thus they are represented in the game this way.

In the .loc files there are some lines suggesting that Date, Tokugawa, Hideyoshi(perhaps) were going to be seperate clans who had the potential to inherit the Usuegi, Imagawa, Oda clans. Can't let a mention of Date go without reminding all that he had a bodyguard with 6ft tall gold helmets- cone shaped for extra wizardiness.

Actually, I am not really sure when did I first see a Date member.
Edit: the Date later become heirs of Uesugi Clan.

It is very accurate, indeed.
That is for known daimyos e.g: Shingen, Tokugawa, Nobunaga etc. Some of the heirs/daimyos i do not know if they are accurate.
