probably going to get an Acer Aspire 1360:

# Mobile AMD Sempron® 2800+ (1.6GHz)
# 15.4" WXGA TFT display (1200x800)
# 512MB DDR (2 x 256)
# 40GB HDD
# CD-RW & DVD Combo
# 64MB Shared Graphics
# Wired LAN 10/100
# 56Kbps modem
# Li-lon battery (Up to 3 hours usage)
# 3.6Kg
# Dimensions (WxDxH) 361 x 292.5 x 47.3 mm
# Software: Windows® XP Home, Norton Anti-Virus 2003, Power DVD, NTI CD-Maker
# I/O Ports: 4x USB 2.0, S-Video, Firewire, Parallel, Audio in/out, Infrared, 2x PCMCIA slot
#£ 667.68 inc VAT £ 568.24 exc VAT
the socket 754 Sempron chips are basically Athlon64's with the 64 removed and half the cache, but much better than an AthlonXP.
the motherboard uses the Via K8N800 chipset with the S3 Unichrome II graphics, which will never break any records, but is better than the average integrated graphics.
i have seen some benchies for onboard graphics, but not this chipset, but i figure it will be somewhere inbetween the Intel Extreme Graphics2 and the new 915G on the recent Intel DDR2 chipset.

can i edit the config so that M:TW will run at 640x400 resolution? and if so will it be playable?
i chose 640x400 as it is exactly half the native resolution of the TFT (1280x800) so the loss of image quality from running a non-native res is minimised.

cheers

I personally have a widescreen laptop and i have total war have the widescreen in the options and i never notice any loss in image quality it is and if there is it is minimal and also if you have it at that resoloution then all the icons will be huge. So i would just put total war on widescreen and play normally.

cheers, i'm happy it supports widescreen.
M:TW is quite old now so i guess i may be able to run it at 1280x800 even using onboard graphics.

thank you.

the question about image quality referred to running the game at a resolution other than the TFT screens native resolution.
