Idea/Project: creating a RTW Ancient Greek gaming clan

Hello all! ~:idea:
I am Drákon, 31 yo from Finland.
So, here is my idea: create an Ancient Greek game fansite, with of course the main gaming section centered around RTW, as the game offer us the possibility to play as the 'Greek Islands' and command the mighty hoplites ~:smoking:
For now, it is just a project. I have a solid experience in creating fan site, and will use for it the same tools I used in the past: php nuke.
Basicly, it will be a site, with a forum (for the clan) divided in sections, a chat, a download section, a photoalbum, news, things like that.
I am already co-owner of a japanese/samurai game fansite, called BushidoGamers ( http://www.bushidogamers.net ).
check it out, you will see what I am thinking. Something rather close, but with a strong Ancient Greek style, of course.
And why not add special "culture"or "greek history" sections/forums in it... this can be done easily. For the graphics and the site (technical) I can handle it, but ...

...for creating a clan, a guild, or whatever, we must have members and players. I will play the game, of course, but I havent experience in creating "clans". And here, you can help me :)
Please use this thread to add you comment, your advices, or simply say me if you are interesting to join me in this adventure.
I understand that the site will be the "home" of the clan, but how should it be structured ?
- do we need special sections for stats?
- do we need ranks?
- do we need medals?
...
Feel free also to propose a name to the project! ('zero' idea so far ~:rolleyes: )

Finally, two important things:
- this project is for having fun with RTW, nothing more, but in a structured ancient greek clan, for those who like them more or at least as much as romans (too many roman clan btw ~;) )
- if I found enough motivated souls here, this can happen very fast: before the end of the week I get the domain (yep, we will get a domain name! not a http://personalweb.very.complicated/~address/impossible/to-remember.php)
==> that's why the name for the clan/guild/site must be Goooood :)

The link gives way to a very impressive site (well done for that! ~:cheers:) , the idea of doing a themed clan is good but when you come down to it, isn't it a little prohibitive? Making members always play as the Greeks will have a serious tactical downside to it as well as doing the one thing Clans should really never do - forcing it's members to be somethnig they may want not want to be as much.

On the other side, you may find some very similar minded people on these forums (and i hope you do).

Clan sites should be mainly about introducing the clan and presenting a good first impression to the visitor, the hompage should have things such as the history, current members, etc.....

As for name try "Hellenic Islands League"???? or "Association of Hellenic Peoples"???

Thank you. You know, with a php nuke skeleton, and a touch of photoshop, it's rather easy to do ~:)
It looks nice but it's also really easy to administrate and update.
It's commonly used for FPS-clans (Halo, Medal of Honors, ...)
so, why not for strategy also ~:p

I understand what you mean. But it's like setting the rules for multiplayer.
Players will learn to be good with a particular civilization (greece), learn its strengths and weaknesses...
Of course we will play with Egypt, Rome or Gaul! We could for example set two kind of awards, one for victories with the Greeks, another for the other factions.
Also, the Greek theme is, I hope, something that will bring the players who like the ancient greek civilization over the others (like me).
I know that there are a lot of Roman clans (already existing or forming), and I think that they will play mainly with Rome... no?
We will play (multiplayer) with the Greeks, and make them taste the power of
the Macedonian phalanx :tomato: and the courage of our hoplites! :knight:



On the other side, you may find some very similar minded people on these forums (and i hope you do).

I hope, I really hope. The future of this project depends of that.
Without players, I can't do nothing... or may be a one-soldier-army.. bah, not fun...

with the php nuke system, that's easy to do. We can think also about a "ranking" system, or "award" system for victories.
Perhaps some kind of medals. Dont know yet. I will do some research on the net to get some real images or simply informations on the hierarchy in the ancient greek army, to set the most realistic things up.

Sounds good. The usage of the word "Hellenic" somewhere in the clan's name is almost 'obvious' :saint:
