View Full Version : Total War going to console!?!
In the demo, which you people will soon see has an interactive thing that comes with it that says something about Total War moving to console, heres the quote: "The Creative Assembly are currently working on the next genereation Total War products including a Total War title ps2, xbox & ngc that will define a Total War brand for consoles)"
I am a bit speachless...

Heya Scipio, long time no see ~
I doubt it will be a strategy game, apparently it will be Dynesty Warrior-esque sort of console game with a bit of strategy or tactics, i hope i'm right becuase that would be fun ~D
Now what time period would it be... hmmm..

And when I thought their catering to the unwashed masses could get no worse...
A dynasty warriors type game could be fun, but they should focus on making REAL total war games, and not stupid console rip-offs or fighting games. Sheesh.

Oh no... ~:( this will just result in a dumbed down console game and no future development of a decent PC system. Once they start making money from selling the console version, what incentive will there be to sell a PC version that differs from the console version.
Console games are all well and good (I'm a fan of various PS2 games), but controlling troops using a console controller... I just don't see it.

I beleive CA is capable of making a kickass console game, i doubt it would be a mindless hack and slash, but if it is.... :tomato:
Lol, good to cya Faisal, its been a while since I was active at the Org because of my history site (ancient-archives.com) and working as mod at TotalRome.com (now PlaneTotalWar.com) but the forums are down so... I actually wouldn't mind seeing where this goes, and about what Tonka said; I wouldn't mind seeing TW end here, it doesnt look like they can do anything more to the games to make them better, but if they do stop making these games ther needs to be some consolation. I think if CA would at least help the mod community by making unit sets for mods (like shoggy redone units, etc.) then we could keep total war going for ages...

No. That's horrible. It will likely be a step back from RTW. I just don'y see how it wouldn't be if it's running on weak counsels. And I once thought that the Total War franchise was safe from the counsel cancer.

That would be horrible. I enjoy console games, but Total war is for computer... and should stay that way. Consoles are for FPS, and RPGs, not RTS. This... makes me very sad. ~:(

Didnt CA make the pretty imbalanced an (pretty poor) Cricket 2000?

Damn............if this news is true then the crappy new interface(old one is still available) with horrible pointing arrows and so forth is starting to make sense.Any strategy game i have played on a console has been awful.Consoles are simply incapable of the depth and feel necessary for strategy games.
I hope not. Console releases have ruined many of my favourite games or would-be favourite games. The most notable being Sea Dogs II (which ended up as Pirates of the Caribbean)

Consoles aren't even good for FPS lol.
Consoles aren't better than PC in anything just about. The only thing console has over PC is that now everyone neglects the PC in favor of the consoles.

Agreed, every fps ever transferred from pc to console was warped into an ugly, scaled down version. Terrible.. Terrible things...
It could be like DW4 Empires. That game is suppose to be Total War for the console because you play Romance of the 3 Kindoms but when battles start you go and do the battle yourself like in Total war. The difference is that you control one person. I don't konw how planning works I'll have to see to decide how good it is. But if that is done right I have hope that Total War would be cool like that.
CA will have to trim down the game a lot because right now the system requirements far exceed console specifications. This is a logical move from a business perspective once the brand is established because there is a lot more money to be made in the console games market than in the pc games market, and you don't have all the technical problems that exist in the pc market because the console hardware is the same from unit to unit. Once you understand that CA isn't really interested in modeling history in their games except to the extent that it baits people to buy the product, their decisions make more sense.
RPGs are better on the PC than on the consoles. Hopefully, CA will follow Bioware who is still developing PC RPGs even after the success of Star Wars: KOTOR. PC RPGs are just much, much deeper and more strategic than console RPGs. Bioware is making a PC only game in Dragon Age and an Xbox only game in Jade Empire, which is really great.
Consoles are for sports games, fighting games and action games like Ninja Gaiden. Also for hack and slash games like Dynasty Warriors. Blizzard will release a Starcraft game for the consoles which isn't an RTS but an action game. CA should probably do the same thing if they are going consoles.

I think a console game would be very interesting. I'd like to see them pull off a decent strategy game. The only strat. game for console that I know of is goblin commanders, and that is just pathetic. The unit limit is 10...

CA makes GREAT strategy games, they're the best strategy gamemakers around, and as such, they shouldn't be that bad at making a console strategy game.
