Trebia is a great battle, here is a tip to fight an alternative and a more decisive one:

As the battle starts, go to your main force and group your general, 60 man sbc and both skirmishers and send them to the forest on your right. Meanwhile group your elephants on your left. Your main army is there to stand basically and your elephants can really damage those legions as the velites on the roman right often break and it gives a chance for the elephants to cause havoc. This army will be destroyed but don't worry about that, its meant to for this to work.

While this is happening bring both cavalry ambushes and send them across the river, all the while moving your wood army through the trees and then move around the enemy and send those across the river.

The battle is very fun and really shows how damaging your skirmishers can be and you can really destroy the rome army in a new and i think easier way. Hope this is use to anyone

My my best winning method on Medium so far is to let the romans advance and bring the flanking cavalry right round behind them. Then when the romans reach the base of the hill your men are on, charge your foot soldier down to engage and similtaniously mob the enemy general to the rear with your cavalry... Now charge your elephants through the densest parts of the battle, with a little luck the enemy general should bite the dust at about that point and the majority of the romans will route, now just harry them off the field...

Same tactics on Hard... Basically all occurs as above until the enemy general dies and your elephants are in the thick of the fighting... The big diference is that the vetern roman units simply don't route and manage to rout the elepant and overrun your foot soldiers (dispite the death of their general!!)..

The Blind King of Bohemia does your example work for hard??

Yeah everything on Hard and below you can basically just fight a straightforward battle. On Very Hard you have to be a bit more creative.

Not really, you still just have to manage your cavalry well and time the charge perfectly for after the romans are commited, but before your line routes. Of course this would be harder if the romans did a better job of keeping their Triari in reserve instead of just sending them with the mob (maybe this is what historically happened though?), a couple of reserveTriari units could really blunt the cavalry charge, but the elephants still might do the trick if you used them well.
