Sorry to start a new topic about this, but it occurs to me that a lot are unaware of the fact that you can change this.

You can only do this in game for it to work properly. Once in-game, press escape, go to game options and there is a drop down menu. Now select the Total War camera mode not the RTS mode, and there you have it. All good and old. But I still like the new one better ~
A tip, try General View, really makes it a lot more fun. This calls for pre-decided tactics also, much more realistic.

Ah, so you can't really change it before playing Trebia, only after the battle has started! That seems like a glitch, but as long as it works. Thanks Sjakihata!

can a mod change the title to something like 'How to enable original Total War camera'?

Thank you, thank you, thank you Sjakihata! I'm very happy now. Though it makes me wonder what the "Options" menu item is for if you have to do you settings changes in-battle.

BTW, send a PM to Catline and he'll change the title for you. I've no mod powers in this forum.

Its still not the proper camera.
It is deeply frustrating having to use the keyboard to adjust the camera angle ~:(

There are a couple of tweaks available in the preferences.txt

CLASSIC_CONTROL:FALSE

Change to TRUE to enable right click & drag to turn the camera.
It also gives you left click attacks.
Unfortunately it doesn't change left click to click & drag units, leaving it on selection box which used to be a right click & drag with shift (? or something like that) and that makes it rather useless.

CLASSIC_UI:FALSE

Change to TRUE & it seems to be trying to run the unit flags more like S & M, though it doesn't work properly in this demo so also not very useful.

I like the FPS view much better then the original style.

OK. i'm now confused about the camera controls.

I thought there were 3 possibilities for camera mode:
1. Total War style: camera hovers around your units.
2. RTS style: Camera high above battlefield
3. General view : camera hovers around general unit only.

There are also camera control key assignments and the two presets were:
1. Total war style
2. FPS (I take that to be first person shooter).

I personally prefer FPS. In fact in MTW I had the camera keys assigned to W,E,R,S,D,F so that I used my left hand for camera, my right hand for mouse (got that tip from the multiplayer guide).

So there are two separate choices to make. Is my understanding correct, or am I totally off base here?

You CAN change the camera view to TW style before the battle. It is in the options menu under control settings.

The thing that bothers me about the control style is you can't just look up and down anymore. Looking down actually brings you closer to the ground, it doesn't just change your viewing angle. I still have yet to be able to look up, unless i'm at the ground looking up a hill, then I can see up.

I would like the ORIGINAL camera settings back as an option. But after using the FPS style, I like it much better. So long as we can map the keys however we want, this will help me to focus on the battle with my mouse while I move with my left hand.

EDIT: Ok I figured out how to look up, and do some of the other things that you could do in the other two games. In the options menu under camera options make sure that option to see the battle in an RTS style is off. At least I think thats what it was called.

1st: Yep, you can change it before the battle in the options-menu.

2nd: I´m lefthanded and like in MTW I can move the camera forward-backward with Uparrow and downarrow, up and down(altitude) with either my mousewheel or numpad / and * and I can look up and down with numpad - and +, so for me it´s still the same, don´t know if righthanded people used other controls before.
One plus for me then. ~:p ~;) ~D

I'm still playing with both RTS and TW cameras. They are both good. The main differences I found are:

RTS: allows a higher view of battlefield. Zooming in brings you at an angle to the ground. The fixed angle makes it easier to manage. To rotate camera sideways, left click and strafe right/left.

TW: allows changing angle of view (use + and - keys on num pad). Does not lift off the ground as much.

I'm pretty sure veteran MTW players will use TW mode, novices would likely go to RTS.

but i rem the in mtw, u cld "lift" off the grd more...gives u a better view of the battlefield and lets u see the big picture. now when u enable total war camera, the camera seems to stick very closely to the units, not much option 4 u to lift off the grd and c everything. mayb temperin with the zoom lines in the perferences txt?

You can also change it by editing Preferences.txt with Wordpad. Classic_camera or something like that. There's also Classic-gui, but that doesn't seem working yet.

It's great when games offer configuration also in plain text.
