hi all,

http://www.barca.fsnet.co.uk/trebbia.htm

This may have been posted previously, but this page and the link at the bottom of it to another description give excellent historical perspective to the battle at the river Trebbia (Trebia), the battle in the demo.

20,000 heavy Carthaginian infantry, 1000 horse in the ambushing cavalry. Talk about unit size...

I was actually wondering why the called it Trebia not with two bs. Everywhere I read about it they called it Trebbia

Reading that it appears to be hard for the AI to replicate.. To put a RTW spin on it, when the attack to the rear occured it was not the heavy Infantry who rout but the flanks, infact the main troops never route and break through and the command must fight his way to the edge of the map and withdraw his troops in good order... Wonder if it is possible to replicate something like that...

I suppose it would be a lot different if we had units of 800-1400 men, then cavalry charges to the flank would still be rough but very handleable. The flanks get wiped out, make an orderly retreat, and call it a day.

Elephants against tight-packed 1400 man units, that's another story. Poor elephants though, they all died of frostbite afterward...
