Its on Pay-per-view atm, and with my long weekend off coming up........is it worth the 3 quid viewing price?

The most realistic sailing epic ever. It has two of the greatest battle scenes ever ship on ship that I have ever seen. Unfortunaltly these occur at the beggining and end of the movie with a long but very interesting pause in between. Its more than worth watching. If you want to know what it was like to serve in the British Navy back then its a must see.

Great movie, saw it in theaters (had to rob two banks to afford it, but that is another story).

Battle scenes are intense! Talking in between, less so. ~;)

If you do not need gallons of blood to be visually stimulated, then you'll probably enjoy it.

I thought it was overly long and a little on the boring side.

I also found it to be vaguely homoerotic. A bunch of muscular, shirtless men (and a few young boys) on a long ocean cruise, high leather boots, the discipline of the lash...

I think all you conservatives who loved the movie so much really need to ask yourselves why you found it so engrossing...

Goofy, that's messed up! ~ I liked it, and thought it was one of the better movies of the year. Of course I didn't see that many besides Lord of the Rings last year.... Anywho, yeah, you should see it.

Sigh. Goofball. Dude. We've talked 'n stuff. You're 'going page 3' on me, on page 1. ~D

Pay-per-view is what, $5? Worth that. As noted above, a little tedious between battles...maybe the film-makers were going for typical military duty: Looooong periods of humdrum, punctuated unpredictably by short periods of life-and-death struggle.

I said the same thing in person to a buddy of mine who is openly homophobic and he started to get really mad at me before he realized how hard I was trying to keep a straight face.

Unfortunately, that doesn't come accross on a computer screen as well as in person...

My apologies to anybody who's latent urges I might have awakened.

Great movie. Probably the most realistic movie dealing with the Age of Sail to date. Personally I didn't notice the "homoerotic" aspects of the movie, but I'm not a liberal. If you are the type that supports gays marriages, perhaps it may be a little "homoerotic." ~:p

A great film. I enjoyed every minute of it, from the broadsides to the cello and violin duets to the the banter in the mess.

I really liked the lesser of two weevils

The Lesser of the two weezils line was made even funnier by the fact that they had all had too much to drink, and were laughing like buffoons. ~:joker:

I highly recommend it but then I read all of the books. It is a very interesting picture of what life was like on a frigate in the early 19th century. I suppose that the middle can be a bit tedious, but then so was sailing half way around the world on a ship powered only by the wind. The tedium interspersed with intense action is what makes it realistic.

If you've read and enjoyed the books (as I have) it's best to forget that you have read them, and think of it as a good naval adventure, because though there is a passing resemblance to the books, it doesn't quite follow any of them in particular - it has bits out of different ones. (Plus, in the relevent book, it's an American frigate, not a French one)

One reason I had for enjoying it, apart from the entertaining ship to ship engagements was the presence of an old school friend on the crew.

Nowhere near as good as I thought it would be. Even the climactic battle was a little disappointing. IMO, too much "character development" and not enough naval action.

That being said, its worth seeing if you haven't, especially if you're a 19th c. naval warfare fan.

It's pretty good, kind of lacking any real story though...

I watched it and felt I'd somehow missed the movie.

So that's why my nipples were hard during the movie. ;)

Well I watched it and it was pretty enjoyable. Fewer Hollywood Cliche's than normal - not cliche free, but still fewer ~:)
