View Full Version : Charges not necesserily "overpowered"

This is common-sense based suspicion that cavalry, elephant charges are too powerful. Under common sense it should be understood that M:TW is a sort of "standard" to which things are compared. Cavalry is more powerful than in M:TW, this is clear. Power of mighty elephants is less so, because they weren't there previously. Are they overpowered? I don't know, never seen trained war-elephant in action, except in old Age of Empires. I remember from the history schoolbooks that they were considered rahter strategic weapon in ancient times, though sometimes unreliable.

No need to worry though, even if the mentioned units are not downgraded, because we currently know - or glanced at, based on demo - only 1/2 (half) of game content. Not known is how easily available and how costly heavy (sacred band) cavary and elephants are. It might be that the elephants cost such amounts (stage of development, controling necessery geografic regions, hiring costs, producton time, also upkeep cost?) that seeing them in action with all their potential power is rather unfrequent.

It would also be realistic that elephants would die out in harsh northern conditions - because of cold - thus limiting the extent of their power.

It will depend on the unit's costs in multiplayer, but I fully expect to see serious players hosting no elephants, no pigs, no dogs, no artillery and who knows what else.

First of, I wan to see a 4v4 match where flaming pork battle it out!!

Also, the druids, when they use the special attack, they form a circle and summon weather phenomena and heals!!

Well, I hope that one can mod it so that troops can be trained to handle elephants , that is they bang metal on metal and shout when elephants are near to try and frighten them (ala Zama) as it seems that troops are unable to funnel elephants between them. As Im not overly fond of the flaming pigs IIRC they were only used on one battle against Pyrrhus and were marginally more effective then the ox-carts used in the previous battle..... IIRC that is ~:smoking:

Dark, you are basing your conclusions on what can be seen in the demo; a battle which is set-up by the developers to gain victory for the player under specific conditions. The valor added to specific units in this senerio may be quite out-ragious and un-abtainable under any other game conditions (single-player or multi player) Basic balance of units, basic courage of elephants, all must wait untill the release of the game; untill then we can only guess at these things.
