This new stuff sucks ass. How do I switch back to MTW style buttons? Also how do I shut the green arrows off?

Open your demo folder, inside there are a number of folders and files... open the preference file, scroll down to find ' Disable arrow markers ' change the entry from false to true....arrows are gone ~;)

For TW camera setting press f1 during battle TW is one of the settings available. I believe TW is also available on in game options, I deselected the others just for good measure

No not the camera, I mean so that the interface, the unit squares at the bottom of the screen and the orders buttons. They are way to small and they look like every other RTS game out there. I want the large unit boxes at the bottom with the unit command boxes at the top of the screen. How do I do that?

First you uninstall the R:TW demo, and then you intall S:TW or M:TW in its place!

Maybe you're looking for the option "Classic_UI"? It's apparently "FALSE" on default in the "preferences.txt" file, change it to "TRUE" and it might give the classic interface back.

The "preferences.txt" file can be found in the main RTW directory, but I'm not quite sure if you need Suchoop's Easymod for it.

And with "Classic_Control" put on "TRUE" you get (STW/? Haven't played STW in a long long time)MTW controls, but I don't know if everything is exactly alike though. I haven't tested it fully yet, but at least the camera controls seem to be the same; hold rightmouse button down and move your mouse to tilde the camera works! I thought the "Total War Style Camera" in the options was supposed to do it, but it didn't work for me.

You get the left-click for move, right click for camera back, BUT YOU CAN'T DRAG BY HOLDING DOWN THE LEFT MOUSE BUTTON! INSTEAD YOU GET THE SELECT BOX!!! CA FIX THIS PLEASE! :saint: .

It is really annoying and debilitating in battle.

Yep you're right, god that's annoying! Back to the old controls ~

EDIT: Nevermind, hold down Ctrl and leftmouse click until you get the desired formation and let go. Gah me and my impetuous posting behavior.

Huh. I never knew that. But it works! And there goes probably my number 1 grumble about RTW...

Thanks! ~

In the game press Esc and a menu will pop up, where you can change the interface to MTW. I don't know how to do change it in the config files.

I found Control-LeftMouse fairly quickly but I've a few other gripes about the Control Interface. Maybe if I share them, we can find solutions.

-- Dragging out using Control-LeftMouse doesn't always seem to work when the units are grouped, though ungrouping them (but leaving them selected obviously) does. There's a Control-L command which might be relevant but I'm not sure it is having any effect. The problem is they get redrawn all over the place, not in a line where you are dragging.

-- Dragging out as above doesn't work if the start or end of the drag is over a unit's current position. IMHO that shouldn't matter (either the unit is one of the ones that is being repositioned or I'm about to move it somewhere else).

-- Changing facing using to be so easy in M:TW. Now we have the , and . keys but I once found a group of units wandering randomly around instead of doing what I wanted. In any case, it isn't always easy to get the exact facing you want using these commands.

-- Moving a group in formation and getting them to resume their current facing when they arrive (Alt-LeftMouse in M:TW was it? - my fingers know but my brain isn't sure!). Can this oh so useful task be done in R:TW? All I've managed so far is move them then change their facing once they reach their new position, but this is a lot less efficient, both in time and clicks.

-- In M:TW, while you were dragging out a formation, you could use the RightMouse button to toggle the depth of every unit either relative to their original numbers or (the useful one) relative to the current unit numbers. So a unit down to 50% strength could be reformed with its appropriate depth (though with 1/2 the frontage obviously). Doesn't work in R:TW, can it be done some other way?

-- It would be nice if one of the preset formations (Shift 1-?) could get a Roman army to form up in pre-Marian manipular formation, though I can see this would be tough. While I'm mentioning the Shift-number preset formations: the only time I used one they formed up in 3 lines, missiles at the front as expected. I refined it a bit (Cavalry on flanks, archers behind infantry) then grouped the whole army and sent it marching. When it got to its destination it had reformed into the preset formation. Anyone else noticed that?

That's enough for now, though I'm sure there are others at the back of my mind somewhere. I must say the most recent mods and batles I've played have made me more optimistic about the full game: control of armies is still tough but I can see some decent enemy AI running the battles (sometimes).
And the killing speed isn't quite so bad once unit stats are more balanced. Speed still far too much though but anyway, this is all for another thread...

Escape (sometime need to hit Esc 2 or 3 times) to get the menu. Select Options then click at the heading on the top to move between the 3 screens ( Camera, Controls and Others I think). Sorry this is from memory but wife using real machine and I'm stuck on ancient laptop. ~:(

The other way to change some things at least is to edit the preferences.txt file in the Demo top level folder (it doesn't appear until the game has been run at least once). Indeed, some things like changing Disable-Green-Arrows (something like that) to TRUE can only be done by editing the file. One of its entries is CLASSIC_CONTROLS, change it to TRUE if you prefer that. There's also a CLASSIC_UI but that does nothing (maybe it will in the full game).
