I am stunned and some what amazed that none of you - as of yet - have listed the clear - and undoubtly so - favorite for success and all round best team... EVER, as their number 1. Although it did take a few moments to get over the fact that this was the case, I am now able - albeit slowly - to type this message and put you in the right and show you the error of your ways. Now we all know where we stand I will enlighten you as to the best team in existance, it is that team which his worshipped by many, and yes - loved by all, West Ham. Oh we are not good enough to see that name without the presense of a higher being. I bow to you, and to that oh so, great team.

But if it wasn't for Arsènal, who'd stop that ******** Chelsky?

And face it, the whole Premier League is a foreign affair. It's a toy for Irish horse magnates, the Malaysian government, Egyptian whatevers, Russian mobsters and what not.

But then, after 150 year it finally gave the English a chance to see a decent game of footy at home.

No we've just caught up with the rest of the continent who were playing lots of foreigners for years before we did and who were dominated by international financiers: welcome to modern football.
The major leagues with all the money can attract the best players and managers want the best players regardless of whether they are home grown or not. It is easier for a mega rich team like Arsenal to buy Henry, for example, than groom one of their own, which could take many years.
Mind you, Thierry Henry was rubbish before he went to Arsenal. Before he went there he was an obscure winger of promising skill, but who was going nowhere, playing for Juventus. Now he is one of the best strikers in the world: because of his move to England. Dennis Bergkamp was also one of the mercenaries of Europe before he went to Arsenal. He changed clubs more times than I've had hot dinners. Now he has been at Arsenal for near on 10 years.

BTW, I am not an Arsenal fan.

It is more than just money in football. Chelsea may have the riches, Roman can almost buy anyone he wants, but the team doesn't have the integrity and teamwork enough to play suberbly.

Arsenal has been the most stable club - starting with a lot of same players over several seasons. This is what I like.

Well... i am made this post just for kidding; In fact i was wondering how all the french players are considered in UK.

I have the luck to have have english friends despite of my bad english knolewgde; I had saw a game in Charlton stadium on last 17 may and cannot let you say "but after 150 year it finally gave the English a decent game on footy..." If you waana see football mate cross the channel you will find stadiums with no railings and pubs around them, ~ I know how i am talking, i am one of RC Lens. ~ ~

Hi William,

As far as i know there is no specific reasons why towns have red and blue teams, i know different clubs were formed by specific groups (Dock Workers for instance) but i dont think the colour is relevant other than to distinguish them from their rivals. If im wrong about this please someone feel free to correct me!

Im a trainee accountant really, although im not concentrating too hard on my study at the moment!

IIRC Everton football club (just like Celtic) was formed by a catholic priest in the 19th century to divert the attention of the working class from the c**p conditions they lived in. Consequently, the Toffees (Evertons nickname) has traditionally drawn supporters from that faith, whilst the Reds have drawn supporters from Protestant areas. In that respect, Liverpool and Glasgow are very much alike - Rangers = protestant, Celtic = catholic

As to the different colours, not sure. Man U originally played in lime green and yellow quarters (remember the horrible away shirt from 8 years back?)

Ok but what about Sir Clive Woodward for coach of England FC? ~ He's followed footy all his life, has exceptional management skills and not being an international player hasnt held back Sir Alex Ferguson has it? Go on everyone, what's ur thoughts????????

Chelsky the best team in Britain ~:joker: of course this must be based on the success in last year's premiership, cup and european football. As opposed to Arsenal who now hold the longest unbeaten run in English football? and there's no way Celtic or Rangers would be anything other than also-rans if they played in the English premiership - as much as it hurts me to say this (being a Scot), but if Celtic or Rangers were to play in that league, they would find it very difficult; the game is of far greater technical skill than in Scotland. Let's face it, whom do they have that puts up a realistic challenge to them, consistently year in year out?

The best premiership side of the moment has to be Arsenal and I'm not a Gooner.

as much as i hate to admit it Arsenal are currently the best side in the Uk but i gotta have failth in my boys to come good, although it was the mighty Chelsea who knocked Arsenal out of the Champions League last season and are infact the last team to beat Arsenal.

True and that was an upset but did Arsene put out his top team? I thought some key players were injured or were suspended? But hey - good game - i remember watching it.

I used to like watch Man U play, as they really did play beautiful soccer. But know I have this incredible urge to throw things whenever Ronaldinho smirks, Ryan Giggs isnt the player he was and they really havent replaced Beckham with anyone approaching his quality - passes, crosses and deadballs. With Owen going to Real, they have to be the side to watch - jampacked with talent and skill. Plus the Spanish league is miles in front of the english premiership in terms of technic and skill. But we're gettin there

Bah the Spanish League is for Pretty Boys, you cant fart near someone without them falling ovwer clutching their knee in (supposed) aggony. They do have the best attacking players in the world, but i like the physical side of the Premiership its much tougher than the rest of europe.

I never got to watch Chelsea beat Arsenal as i was travelling round China at the time but read all about it on the net and emailed all my Gooner friends!! ha ha

Hmmm - it is a tendency that is creeping in to the British game; gamesmanship some call it, others call it cheating.

So do you think Clive Woodward could make it as a footy coach then?

King Edward
09-03-2004, 11:58
Im not sure really, he will make a decent Manager as long as he has a solid football brain with him.

Woodward is a superb organiser and knows how to get thinks done so i dont think its impossible for him to make the transition. It will be interesting to watch anyway!

As far as 'Gamesmanship' goes, its cheating in my opinion.

I agree - I think that he can make the transition and he is a superb organiser and he will bring those around him who know more about the specialist areas - he's done that at the ERFC.

I think that if someone has been fouled and they make more of it than it was, it's gamemanship - if there was no contact then its cheating and rightly should be carded. There probably should be more cards for diving than there is, but ref's can't be everywhere and see everything. Perhaps giving the those on the side more 'power' as was done in rugby? Now if you infringe in rugby, the ref may not see, but sodds law the guy on the sides will and he can recommend what the ref does. as for video referees - not in favour. It would slow the game down; timid ref's would resort to it far too often - its happened in rugby league and is creeping into union.

King Edward
09-03-2004, 12:25
Yeah even at the level of rugby i play i've been caught, um 'manipulating' the rules once or twice. (Usually somthing to do with my boot and their body on the floor having some sort umm.. contact......)

I dont like play acting though, I think one of the worst things you can do is fake something to get some one sent off. See Rivaldo in the last world cup as an example.

Video ref should be utter last resort. refs are starting to rely on them too much.

Example of a Touch Judge ruleing in rugby was when Simon Shaw was sent off for England agianst The All blacks by that Blo*dy Aussie Touch judge.

Divine Wind, you were Robbed agianst Utd last week, utterly disgusting!!

Desiderata
09-03-2004, 12:41
So I guess that you playas a forward the? Perhaps a flanker?

Oh Rivaldo's fakery was disgustin - as tho he'd been poleaxed *shame on him*

Yeah, ok Touch Judges don't always get it right and it also depends on the ref of course; there's one english ref (can't remember his name) uses his whistle far too many times - I think it's Steve someone

King Edward
09-03-2004, 12:48
Actually Im a Winger but i still like to get stuck in every now and again. Sometimes its the only way to stay warm!!!

You need a strong ref in rugby or the players will take advantage of him.

Desiderata
09-03-2004, 12:54
Oh yeah - I loved playing at inside centre - lots of action, tackling and u got to see the ball. The best ref I had was a woman - firm, fair n didnt take any sh1t from anyone. The worst was a ref who changed his mind about a decision - told everyone that he was weak and the game nearly dissolved in to a slugfest; didnt help we were playing our local rivals. u know the type of game; the club that u love to hate ha ha ha

King Edward
09-03-2004, 14:07
Yeah had a few refs do the change decision thing, it ruins the game because everyone argues every call after that.

Desiderata
09-03-2004, 14:16
Absolutely - even if the call is wrong, dont change ur mind says I

King Edward
09-03-2004, 14:26
Yep the best thing a ref can do if he makes a bad call is stick to it and if anyone argues march them back 10 until they shut up. They wont do it agian.

Thats what is good about rugby, players have to respect the ref because being marched 10 yards back is a signifcant penalty for team so the players just have to shut up and get on with the game, unlike in football where you see Roy Keane screaming in the refs face when he makes a decision he doesnt like!

I know ~:( Blackburn seem to have had no luck for the past couple of seasons with the officials. I cant moan and gripe to much about the result, as a draw with Utd for us is good. But i can moan and gripe about having to waste 20 quid on a ticket to see the game and then have to drive 4 hours back home for a draw, when it should have been a win! ~:(

Please ignore all the above.

1878 St Domingo FC formed at St Domingo Methodist Church, St Domingo Vale. Home matches played in Stanley Park

1879 Name changed to Everton FC

1901 Kit changed to royal blue with white shorts (having had a variety of previous kits, including a black with red sash kit that led to the nickname 'the Black Watch' - a reference to the similarly attired Scottish regiment).

Football as a vehicle for expressing religous intollerence is really a Glaswegian thing and has nothing to do with the supporters background in Liverpool.
