View Full Version : flanking!?
I recognized that when charging a phalanx of Sacred Band Inf from the back with Barbarian Noble Cav, I took about as many losses as when charging from the front, of course I could rout them and it was more usefull, but my guys charged into the back of the enemies and just fell dead, I hope it won´t be always like this, these guys didn´t even have to turn around, my cav just died behind them, and it was no arrow or spear fire, it were definitely close-combat casualties, I´ve never seen such a thing in MTW/VI and I hope it´s just a bug of the Demo. ~

Did you check the valor on the SBI and the BNC?
I made the mission myself, valour wasn´t very different.
But if you kill an expert from behind doesn´t mean you get killed yourself for no reason, valour shouldn´t have any effect except the killrate of the flankers, the phalanx simply killed my cav without even turning around...

maybe the SBI have a special called "everyone dies that attacks us"
it's too bad that you attacked when you did, sounds like they were using that Power Up.

Hmm... These are a phalanx you say? The "everyone who attacks us dies" might be a representation of charging into a spearwall, which I think they included. In that case, there's a bug regarding the actual status of the men and the animation they're currently in.

Well I remember in a TC episode where some cav charged into the back of the Spartan formation. THe SPartans sustained heavy losses but eventually fought off and killed all of the Cav, so it is possible for a formation to come back from a flanking/rear attack.... but then again you speak of your cav dying AS they charge into the rear of the SBI...
Well...flanking Spartans is not like flanking a usual phalanx unit...
Yea the sacred band does like it in the rear ~:joker:

~D ~ No it is not that kind of Sacred Band... They are from Carthage not Thebes.
And aparently they DO NOT like it frome the rear..they get mad or something
Um could it not be a case of death by impact?
Stuff like the lance shatters on the SBI armour, sending splints backwards into the cavs
Or the rider is thrown from the horse by the impact & breaks his neck.
Abstracted of course.

I agree, I think it's supposed to reprsent the horses and riders getting hit by the impact. SBI are pretty heavy inf with pikes while barbarian cavalry aren't really heavy, they're bound to take some damage.
Also keep in mind the animations, while vastly improved probably aren't as realistic as CA wants. Perhaps they want to simulate the rear ranks hearing the thundering horses at the last second and facing them.
Hadnt seen that problem in my four games last night. I regularly flanked with German Noble and Gothis Cav and routed some big Roman armies.

Obviously they use long spears with spear points on each end. ~;)
