Whats your favourite unit type for MTW ???

Well, there are a lot of contenders, and it depends on the age as well, but assuming all units are taken into account, I would have to go with Chivalric Men-at-Arms for best infantry (not counting dismounted knights). Gothic knights as best cavalry (although this is very debateable - lancers, kataphartoi, royal knights, tuctonic knights etc.) Ranged i'm still not decided - it's between Pavise Arbalesters and Longbowmen.
On the whole though, you gotta love the Varandian Guard - they definitely win on overall coolness - and I haulted a HUGE French crusade at Constantinople with just 3 units of them. :knight:
I like units that are archers AND capable infantry.
High-valour Chevalric Sergeants...
There are flashier units, and units better units for specific purposes (like billmen for dicing cavalry), but they're cheap, easy to tech up to, and I thoroughly enjoy putting up that wall of steel in front of my longbows and men-at-arms, having my cavalry out to the flanks, and watching wave after wave of enemy troops crash against them.
Longbowmen - with a little valour these men are dangerous from afar and in your face (well actually coming in behind you).

I'd say my favourite infantry unit is Feudal Foot Knights (dismounted Druzhina Cavalry), because they just rock, plus they look cool.
Favourite ranged unit: definitely Pavise Arbalesters. They murder armoured units and have tons of ammo.
Favourite Cavalry: Boyars at the moment, though this changes all the time. They are badasses with bows.
Favourite Artillery: Organ Gun. Put the crew on hold - hold, place the gun on a hill IN FRONT of your own men, wait until enemy infantry walk up to it, then FIRE! Watch them run in fear ~D I've also used organ guns in defensive bridge battles with really good results. Place organ gun beside the unit of spears/pikes/whatever you're using to hold the end of the bridge, and fire immediately when the enemy come into range. Don't put it on fire at will though, because it might decimate your own defenders.

It has a been a long time since l have played the game since l have lost the cd :(
Well the best unit for me is the armoured swish pikemen. They hold off horses and nearly any infantry unit in the game.

My favorite unit type has to be the battlefield assassins-Hashishen and Sherwood Foresters-Sure, they may not be the most effective guys to use, but I have found that if you are charging at the enemy with knights and you launch an ambush against the enemy from behind, they will soon have a desire to rout, which usually means victory. Hard situation to set up in a large battle, but ever so fun to watch the enemy run like wimps when they realize that they are about to get squished.

Nubian Spearmen. I mean seriously, they are like normal spearmen, but black, and therefore cooler. ~
Abyssinian Guard are also just plain awesome, as they are the only unit in the game to use double-handed axes. Even if they get shredded by Chivalric Seargants, I still use them for the "coolness" factor.
I also like the viking units the Danes get.
Btw, how exactly do Abyssinan Guard compare to western units? I.E. are they equal to militia seargants, halbadiers, etc?
I haven't played MTW in a long time too. I might fire it up and try the Egyptians this time ~:)
As for the best unit. My favorite has got to be the Steppe Cavalry hands down!! Great unit for chasing down those fleeing troops, especially those that can be ransomed for a good price. ~;)
They are useful especially against rebelling Pope's army. I let one of my provinces fall and I fight the pope's main army. I put about 2 Steppe Cavalry on both extreme sides. When the pope commits in battle. I spring them from the forest. When the pope retreats...GOTCHA!!! After the ransom, I break his remaining forces (which don't really get the province since, I just retreat one unit to the castle.
As for infantry, my favorite is the Saracen Infantry. Tough, reliable, and not very expensive backbone of the army.
Best missile troop would have to be the Futuwwa (barring overpowered janissaries and arbalesters). When they run out of ammo you can use them on wedge for flanking.
Has to be longbowmen. Awesome when you are defending and have some infnatry set out infront to protect them.
Billmen definitely. Charging infantry into the enemy's knights and shredding them is the one of the best things you can see.

Janissary heavy infantry. I'm surprised no one mentioned them. They're pretty quick for heavy infantry, have a shield, and can kill ANYTHING. they have pretty good defense and can run in the desert all day. Oh yea, they're armor-piercing too. What more can you ask for?
Janissary infantry I think are the best archer/melee unit and one of the best archer units. Their attack is the same as CMAA I think and their defense is only 1 less. So if you tech them up just a little they're just as good as CMAA plus they got a bow! Just love sending tem rushing down the hill after they run out of ammo. Usually enemy is so shot up by that time they just break.
Turkish are the coolest faction in the game hehehe ~

For me, it has to be the Feudal Men At Arms. they are well balanced in regards of attack & defence, plus, they are quite cheap(compared to ChivMAA) & can hold their own against cavalry.

Lonbowmen and Serpentine.
Both excels at killing from long range.
