View Full Version : Withdrawing tired units without routing?

Know how Rome's initial tactics were to send the younger and more virile young men forward for initial contact and then once they were tired they sent in the next, more veteran wave, only to be followed by a third, if needed? I have tried to do such a thing but each time I try to regroup my tired or casualty-bound troops they rout once they begin to retreat. I realize that a fighting retreat is difficult but has anyone figured out how to replace units on the line without having the original ones rout? ~

Yeah make sure you actually have a retreat to be able to pull back your men... In the gallic mod my general charged in to plug the gap in my lines when I was winning, the problem was I was winning so well the enemy was pushed back the my two units blocked in the Roman general!
The Gauls dispatched him and I was helpless to pull him out.
Sometimes your men get too stuck into combat to be pulled out.
There's a W command as in MTW, but it appears to be non-functional for the demo build. I'm hoping that this will do the trick... a retreat with shields up and fronts toward the enemy. But ya never know.

Control + W was withdraw - unit ran towards off the map. Mixed success in extracating from combat. I do really miss it, though. ~:mecry:
