View Full Version : Searching
I must be blind but I cannot see any way of searching "The Guild" for particular topics of interest ~:mecry: .
The FAQ states "To access the search feature, click on the "search" link at the top of most pages." - see I did read it lol!
Just one little problem. Unfortunately, I see no "Search" link anywhere!

Welcome to the .Org ~
The Search function is unavailable to junior patrons. I believe this is because to many searches can cause the boards to fall over.
Tomcat, read the "new ? please read this !", everything about membership is there.

I think I got the ability to search when I became a member.

You probably registered on a moment where things were not yet completely defined as they are now. I assume the administrators have fine-tuned the options each user group has when they launched this new forum (wasn't it in the beginning of August?).
Yes as junior patrons we're only allowed to post and to ... err, nothing else actually...
King Edward, Ldvs and others,
Thanks. I did read the "new ? please read this !" but all I see - and still see - is the bit about posting restrictions for Junior members, nothing about search restrictions - though admitedly I have not read all the posts in that thread, only the introduction.
The post I originally quoted was the general FAQ for the forum which does not mention anything about searching restrictions - just that there should be a search link at the top of most pages.
I can appreciate the need to curtail the number of searches in order to ensure the board does not get too heavily used such that it crashes. Unfortunately, those who perhaps are in most need of doing searches are often the newcomers to the game who simply have a thirst for information about specific aspects of it that will inevitably have been covered many times before but perhaps not recently.
Is there not perhaps some way newcomers might be allowed to search the forums in their quest for information but have this restriced to maybe 1 search per day or a very limited number of searches per week - say 2 or 3? That would obviously stop abuse but still allow us to obtain some of the information we are looking for.
Anyway, that is just a suggestion ~:) and I appreciate the comments others have already made.
Yes, I did join the forum just at the point it was recovering from an outage of some sort about a month or so ago. And thanks Tricky Lady for the pdf documents of Frogbeastegg's 2 MTW "Primers". Really excellent reading!
